The Arc of New Jersey, in our second year as Chair of the Coalition for a DSP Living Wage, advocated for increased wages in the Fiscal Year 2019 Budget for the state's Direct Support Professionals (DSPs) at the Department of Human Services Budget Listening Session on December 1. The Coalition is continuing year two of its five-year campaign to increase salaries by $1.25 an hour for the hardworking staff who support people with intellectual and developmental disabilities in the workforce. Many high school students with disabilities plan to continue their education in postsecondary schools. Their options include, vocational and career schools, two-and-four year colleges and universities. It's important to stay informed of your opportunities as well as the accommodations available to your student.
Show Your Support For The Arc of New Jersey Family Institute This Holiday Season
In 2017, The Arc of New Jersey Family Institute responded to more than 3,076 requests for assistance from families struggling to care for a family member with intellectual and developmental disabilities. Through our advocacy, they received the help they needed to access critically needed supports and services.
Today, we're launching our 2017 Year-End Campaign. Our goal is to help an additional 3000 mothers, fathers, grandparents and siblings get the resources they need to care for their family member with I/DD, and find a way to get their lives back on track. You see, even though we helped more than 3,000 families last year, there are still tens of thousands that we couldn't help, because we don't have the resources to do so.
That's why our goal for this campaign is to raise $10,000 by December 31st. If we raise that amount, we'll be able to provide resources and direct advocacy for 3000 more families in the coming year.
But we need the help of all our community partners to make it happen.
