President's Update
by Kevin Luey, BACA President

To Our Members,

Welcome!
First, I would like to welcome our new members to the BACA family and thank current members who continue to support and participate in BACA events.

Thanks to BACA Boards
Behind the scenes, the BACA Board works tirelessly to develop and mature many programs and initiatives on behalf of our BACA membership. BACA is an inclusive organization for singer/performers at all levels, educators, songwriters, musicians and producer/directors.

Stepping Down
Second, it is with sadness that I have announced to the BACA Board and BACA Advisory Board of my intention to step down after a new President has been selected. Until then, I will continue to serve as an advisor. The BACA Board is seeking candidates to fill multiple positions in addition to president. Are you ready to give it a try?

Thank You!
Thank you supporting me personally and thank you to the incredible BACA Board members both past and present who have contributed so much to the success of BACA including BACA's Ex-Officio Officers and Advisory Board. BACA graciously does quite a lot for its members that would challenge a paid board.

See You at the Holiday Party
Again, thank you for the opportunity to serve you all and I will continue to participate, volunteer and advise as needed. Hope to see you at the upcoming BACA Holiday Party, December 6!

With utmost respect,
Kevin

BACA Showcase Program

by Carole Bundy, Board, Treasurer

BACA sponsors a series of performance showcases each year. These provide a wonderful opportunity for BACA members to perform before an audience of friends, family and the general public while minimizing the setup of producing a show. Showcases have been popular and well-attended, and offer singers the chance to take to the stage!

Each showcase lasts two hours and has places for five singers. Each singer will have their own 20-minute set. The singer chooses their own material, then rehearses it in advance with the accompanist for their evening. The fee to participate is $70 and you must be a current BACA member. The cost of rehearsal time with the accompanist is to be covered by the performer.

2017 Remaining Showcases
  • December 10 (Pianist: Tom LaMark) - ATAC
2018 Showcases ( Updated ! )
  • March 18      (Pianist: Tom LaMark) - FPW
  • June 10        (Pianist: Tom LaMark) - ATAC
  • October 14   (Pianist: Steve Heck) - ATAC
  • December 9  (Pianist: Tom LaMark) - ATAC
FPW, First Parish, Watertown
ATAC, Amazing Things Art Center, Framingham

If you are a BACA member and would be interested in participating in this program, or if you would like further information, please email Carole Bundy.

Outreach Update
BACA gives back to the Community and provides you another opportunity to work up your music with professional accompaniment.

Joyce Friedman is organizing the BACA Outreach Program and will be working with several assisted living facilities and other senior venues to put on performances/shows on a few Sunday afternoons over the course of the upcoming year. In fact, BACA members will be performing at
  • Cabot Village on January 13
  • Golda Meir on March 25
What a generous way to give back to our communities!

We will have 4 or 5 Singers for each event. Song choices are relevant to the Senior audience (songs that they will know and like). Singers should also be enthusiastic and engaging with the senior audience.

If  you are a BACA member and would be interested in participating in this program, please send Joyce an email. Your name will be added to the roster and you will be contacted when dates are scheduled. Further details will also be provided once some shows are booked.

Cole Porter - From Our Archives . . .
By Leslie Holmes, BACA Advisory Board, Chair

Do you sing any Cole Porter songs? Can you banter about his many gifts? Read Leslie's article for some insights on this extraordinary songwriter.

"Believe it or not, Porter wasn't always successful. His first Broadway show in 1916 - See America First -was a flop. Despondent and concerned that he might be drafted in the United States, he went off to France where he became involved in activities to support the Allies during World War I."
