From Our Interim Pastor
The unusual days continue. Governor Murphy announced this week that the safety measures we have been following (no large group gatherings, keeping physical distance, wearing face masks, washing hands, etc.) will remain in place into June.

Our hopes of restoring in-person worship and dreams of a full sanctuary have to be modified, along with so many other expectations. I met (via ZOOM, of course!) with a couple of group leaders this week to start thinking of the adjustments that will be necessary eventually realizing that we don’t know what our lives will look like in 30 days, or 60 days from now. After the meeting, a short sentence that seldom gets much attention from the beloved 3rd chapter of Ecclesiastes ( Everything Has Its Time) suddenly became most relevant: “For everything there is a season, and a time for every matter under heaven… a time to embrace, and a time to refrain from embracing” (3:1, 5b). This is the season to refrain from embracing.

But while we may not be able to embrace people, we can still embrace those values, virtues and habits that will express love and compassion for all of God’s children. This week we couldn’t embrace nurses or teachers to show our deep appreciation for their dedicated service, but creative people found other ways to show appreciation. Many mothers will miss the loving embrace of children and grandchildren this Sunday, but that will not minimize the deep love and gratitude that they deserve.

While we may not be able to shake hands, give a pat on the back, or share a big hug on Sunday, I look forward to seeing many happy faces at our virtual worship service. During these unusual days we are learning what really matters while discovering new ways to embrace what is of true and lasting value.

Peace ,
Pastor Osy

IHN Update - May 17-24, 2020
Thanks to the volunteers who have signed up to provide food for the family in the Interfaith Hospitality Network program for our Host Week (begins May 17th). The IHN Day Center at 407 Lexington Ave., Toms River (08753) is where the family is sheltering in place and all food contributions should be brought there.

We received a request from IHN this week for the following emergency supplies: Lysol Disinfectant cleaner/spray/wipes, Clorox Disinfectant cleaner/spray/wipes, hand sanitizer, paper towels, toilet paper, latex gloves, thermometer disposable covers (for oral thermometer, ie Safety 1st), thermometer probe covers (for ThermoScan Pro Series-Softouch), first aid kits, batteries (all sizes), and trash bags.

If you have any of these items, please call Bette Hughes (732-581-7729) or Barbara Reusch (732-349-2792) and tell them you are leaving some items for IHN. Please place items in bag, label with your name and address/phone # and write: Interfaith Hospitality. Leave by front door and ring doorbell. If you would like to donate a gift card in any amount to a grocery store, that would also be welcomed.
Calling Everyone Married At PPPC
wedding-rings-pillow.jpg
When we celebrate anniversary Sunday in June, we are looking to make a collage of everyone who has been married at Point Pleasant Presbyterian Church and is still worshipping with us.

Please send us a digital picture from your wedding day at the church. If scanning is not an option, you can take a picture of your original picture with your phone. Pictures can be emailed to mail@pointpresbyterian.org. Call the office if you would like help sending a picture.

Please include your names and date of wedding. Pictures can be from anytime throughout the years. We want to even include pictures from those who are now widowed but still were married here at the church.
We Recognize Our Sunday School Teachers
" Anyone who welcomes a little child like this one
in my name welcomes me.” Matthew 18:5 (NIRV)
Our all-volunteer Sunday School staff members (listed below) feel a special calling to use their talents to build the faith of the youngest within our congregation. They exit the worship service after the Time for Children to shepherd the children over to the Education Annex for instruction. We are grateful and acknowledge their dedication and sacrifice. Special thanks, also, to Barbara Reusch who left worship each week to unlock the doors of the Annex for parents/guardians at dismissal.

A life skill learned in Sunday School - Nehemiah, cup-bearer for the king, found out that the walls of Jerusalem were broken down. With the king's permission, he returned to Jerusalem and, facing many difficulties, rebuilt the city. A lesson for us all...
Sunday School - See You Online!
In keeping with the times, our remaining Sunday School Sessions through May 17 will take place via Zoom before the regular church service begins. Families received their Zoom invitations this week via email and will receive the usual followup materials from "God Times" and "Parent Cue" that relate directly to the Sunday School experience. These thoughtful, easily applied activities and questions encourage faith discussions at opportune times during the week.
Our life skill for May is Determination - Deciding it's worth it to finish what you started. Drawing from New Testament accounts following the Resurrection of Jesus, we'll find out how God gives us what we need to keep going! In our Zoom sessions, we'll chat a bit about our theme, watch the Bible Story Videos, and experience some of the other media that the children normally encounter in the large group session of physical Sunday School. We're excited about this new opportunity to share God's Word in a different way.
