President's Message
I hope you all had a great Fourth of July Holiday and a good start to the short Michigan summer.
I have some exciting news to share with you. First,we have a new President-Elect, Angela Wang Beasinger and Vice-President, Sharon Dow who were elected by the Board of Directors on June 29th. They both have great skills and we look forward to working with them in continuing CAPA's mission and growing CAPA. Secondly, for the first time CAPA has been awarded a Grant by the Michigan Humanities Council. Congratulations to Harsha and her team who worked hard on submitting it. Harsha has given the details of the Grant below. We will be reaching out to our members with more information on participation in the documentary.
Thanks to our new production team under Rachna Kumar, Sharon Dow and Artistic Director Ning Xue we had a great Splendor of East Signature Event celebrating the Asian Pacific American Heritage month. We shared our diverse Asian Culture with the community at large through the theme Sights and Sounds of Asia. I would like to thank you all for coming and supporting us. A special thanks to Counsul General of Japan, Mr. Wada and Director of the Office of New Americans, Mr. Bing Goei for attending the VIP reception and welcoming our guests. This event would not have been possible without the support of all our sponsors. Thank You!
Going forward, CAPA is hosting a new summer event this year. The Asia Fest, on July 14th takes place at the Royal Oak Farmers Market. We are partnering with a number of other Asian Pacific organizations to bring you the cuisine and culture of several Asian Pacific countries under one roof. Please come and enjoy. I look forward to meeting you there. We are also getting ready for our next Signature event, the annual Leadership Summit, on October 22nd. We will be building on last year's theme to equip members of the community with the right skills to be leaders and a more powerful "YOU". As the APA community's strength in numbers in increasing, so should their ability to lead.
I hope to see you all at our events. Please contact me if you wish to volunteer at CAPA.
Best Wishes,
Aneesa I. Rashid, Ph.D.
