Black Hawk Middle School Places 2nd
National African American History Challenge Bowl
The Black Hawk Middle School Team, winners of the 2016, 100 Black Men of Madison African American History Bowl, placed second in the National Competition held, 17 June at the Annual Convention of the 100 Black Men of America, in Atlanta, Georgia.
The Black Hawk team was composed of Julian Trammell, Khaleilei Kidau and Sarah Seymour lost by one point.
Julian is in 7th grade. His favorite classes are math and science. He volunteers in the restorative justice program at school and likes to play basketball. He has been selected as a Principal's Scholar and has been honored by the Madison Metropolitan Links chapter for being a good student. He would like to attend Harvard University and study Engineering or another STEM related area.
Khaleilei will be entering the eighth grade in the fall. She has recently received the Madison Metropolitan Martin Luther King Jr and Madison Links awards. Khaleilei wants to attend Northwestern University for college and study education or computers. She enjoys dancing and playing the piano. She likes to travel and learn about different cultures. She is also interested in a career as a college professor.
Sarah is in 7th grade. She was a Principal's Scholar in elementary school. She won the geography bee in 6th grade and she is skipping 8th grade math and going straight to Algebra. She plays the cello. She also aspires to be as good of a mentor as my parents, teachers, and friends. She wants to go to college and become either a lawyer, doctor or teacher to give back to her community and to her family.

100 BMM Welcomes New Members
Under the direction of 100 BMM Membership Committee Chairman, Wayne Strong, three new members were recently inducted into the 100 Black Men of Madison, Reggie Cheatham, Martin Lackey and Musa Jallow.
Reggie is someone who believes in giving back to the community. He has a keen interest in education and economic development. He is committed to serving his community.
Martin's early life was influenced by negative people. During his adulthood, he realized just how much he had to offer the community. He is now a successful business owner..
Musa has a strong desire to help the community by assisting with the development and implementation of various economic development programs. The programs will be designed to improve the overall quality of life for African Americans as well as other people color.

Students, Opportunity, Access and Readiness
The target population of Project SOAR is African American male students, ages 12 -17, enrolled in either a middle school or high school of the Madison Public School District. The Madison Project SOAR will incorporate and serve students who are economically disadvantaged, from single parent homes, homeless, involved in foster care, involved in the juvenile justice system and other African American students who can benefit from the Project offerings.

Investiture of Everett Mitchell Dane County Circuit Court Branch 4

100 Black Men of Madison member Everett Mitchell will be sworn in as the First African American Judge of Dane County Circuit Court, at 3.30 pm, 22 July in the Dane County Courthouse 215 S. Hamilton Street, Madison, WI, Courtroom 1A.
A 5:00 - 7:00 PM Reception for Judge Mitchell will be held at the Madison Club following the Investiture.
Since 2011, Rev. Mitchell has served as Senior Pastor of Christ the Solid Rock Baptist Church in Madison, Wisconsin with an over 400-member congregation. He continues to serve the congregation with passion, vision and commitment. Rev Mitchell was formerly an Assistant District Attorney in Dane County. Since leaving the District Attorney's office, he continues to provide Pro Bono legal services to disenfranchised people of Dane County and volunteer to teach young people about their legal rights and responsibilities..

munity based on the precepts of respect for family, spirituality, justice and integrity.
The Golf Outing format is a four-person best ball scramble.Prizes and awards will be given for the low-gross teams, longest drive, closest to the pin, Putting Contest, Hole-in-one opportunities to win a new automobile or motorcycle, and more. Individuals and teams are welcome! Non-golfers and/or supporters are also invited to attend and support this effort at the dinner portion of this event. For communities of color, the answer is D) None of the Above.
Tuesday, 9 August, is the date of the Dane County District Attorney election involving District Attorney Ismael Ozanne who will be challenged by Assistant District Attorney Bob Jambois. Although the election is portrayed as a Democratic Primary, there are no Republican candidates. Therefore, the winner of the 9 August election will become the Dane County District Attorney for the next four years. Pursuant to the US Department of Justice, approximately 12- 13% of the American population are African-American, but make up 35% of jail inmates, and 37% of prison inmates of the 2.2 million male inmates as of 2014. A Candidate Forum involving District Attorney candidates, Ismael Ozanne and Bob Jambois will be held 6:00 p.m., 2 August at the Urban League of Greater Madison, 1st Floor Community Room, 2222 S. Park Street, Madison, Wisconsin. During the Forum, each candidate will present information about their qualifications and background, and address issues that are currently facing Dane County.
* Remember, the results of the 9 August election will determine who is the Dane County District Attorney.
The Tuesday, 9 August, 2016 election IS NOT A PRIMARY ELECTION.
There IS no November election for this office.

100 Black Men of Madison Backpacks for Success Stuffing Party

In preparation for the distribution of school supplies at the 2015 Backpacks for Success Picnic, the Annual Backpacks for Success Stuffing Party will be held 5:00 PM, 18 August 2016, at the Wisconsin National Guard Armory in Madison. Last year, more than 200 individuals representing 34 partner organizations as well as numerous individuals of our Community assisted the members of the 100 Black Men of Madison in this preparatory activity.

100 Black Men of Madison Backpacks for Success Picnic

Over the past 21 years, the 100 Black Men of Madison has provided over 30,000 backpacks to area youth. Each is filled with school supplies and dictionaries and given out at our annual Backpacks for Success Picnic for elementary and middle school students. The event has become increasingly popular as the 100 BMM organization continues to assist Madison area students achieve academic excellence.
The 22nd Annual Backpacks for Success Picnic will be held at Demetral Park (601 N. 6th Street, Madison), 10:00 AM Saturday, 20 August 2016.

Encouraging Public School Scholarship

Plans are underway for members of the 100 Black Men of Madison to "Meet and Greet and Encourage" all Madison Metropolitan School District Students as they experience their first day of school,
2 September when the 2016 - 2017 school year begins.
By this action, the 100 Black Men of Madison endeavor to covey to each student that "someone careers about you and we are here to support your success."

 100 Black Men of Madison Prostate Cancer Awareness Walk

The 100 Black Men of Madison will stage the 3rd Annual Prostate Cancer Awareness Walk, Saturday, 19 September. The activity will originate at the Madison Club. The goal of this activity is to raise awareness about prostate cancer and encourage men to be screened through this fun, healthy, family-oriented event. The National Cancer Institute reports that there have been an estimated 233,000 new cases and 29,480 deaths from prostate cancer in the United States so far this year. African ¬American men are nearly 1.6 times more likely to be diagnosed with prostate cancer than Caucasian men and 2.4 times more likely to die from the disease. Please click here
