Jonathan P. DeShazo, Ph.D., M.P.H., associate director for the Wright CCTR's Enterprise Informatics and co-director of the Biomedical Informatics Core, and Megan Blumenthal, lab manager for the VCU School of Medicine's Department of Health Behavior and Policy, led the discussion on strategies and tools for designing an effective research participant recruitment plan.
NCATS SMART IRB Reliance Platform to Serve as Roadmap for New NIH Policy
Through its CTSA program, NCATS is developing a single IRB reliance platform for multisite clinical studies: the NCATS Streamlined, Multisite, Accelerated Resources for Trials (SMART) IRB Reliance Platform.
The goal is to provide flexible resources that investigators nationwide can use to harmonize and streamline IRB review for their own multisite studies.
VCU Massey Cancer Researchers Slow Cancer Growth in Clinical Trial on CCTR'S CRS Unit

The CCTR's Clinical Research Services Unit facility, located in VCU Health's North Hospital (8th floor), is home to incredible clinical research.
VCU Massey Cancer Center researchers are conducting a combination drug therapy clinical trial on the
unit. This phase 1 trial has slowed the growth of cancer in the majority of trial participants who were patients with advanced solid tumors.
VCU HR is offering classes for managers, exempt and non-exempt employees on how to use the new
RealTime system.
Class options can be found at training.vcu.edu (search by Sponsor - Human Resources). Please familiarize yourself with this system prior to Thursday, August 25 in order to ensure proper usage of the system.
Note that this system will replace the CCTR's internal REDCap Leave Request process and will be mandatory for all employees in order to get paid properly.
