What is Personalized, Project-Based Learning?

An article by Tom Vander Ark on the  Education Week blog highlights how schools across the country are implementing personalized, project-based learning and addressing the challenges that often accompany said methods.
" Project-based learning is a great way to engage students, to encourage collaboration and creativity, and to promote authentic work and assessment. But it's hard to: set a high bar for high quality project deliverables; assess projects objectively especially when they're all different; help students with low level skills engage in challenging projects; mitigate the free rider problem of loafing team members; provide enough but not too much formative feedback and support; avoid big knowledge gaps resulting from a string of projects."
Apply to be an AFS Intercultural Host Family

AFS Intercultural Programs USA is seeking host families for international students for the upcoming school year. The program has been successful in the Fairview community since the 1960s.

"The impact of hosting an AFS Exchange student lasts a lifetime," said Sandy Arancibia, Fairview High School Spanish teacher. Arancibia's family hosted a female student from Ecuador during the 1966-77 school year. The family still remains in close contact with her and says "she's like a sister to me after all these years."
