Incentivizing Interest in Water-Related STEM Careers
How many people does it take to ensure a safe, reliable water supply? Tucson area teachers learned the answer first-hand: a lot of people in many fields of study! Twenty-five secondary school teachers participated in APW's week long Tucson STEM Academy, learning directly from Tucson Water, Central Arizona Project, Agua Nueva Water Reclamation, and UA professionals. They distinguished the parts of the Tucson water distribution system and analyzed the relationships between them. They explored the system through the lenses of water supply, water quality, water reclamation and distribution, engineering, and water conservation and efficiency, while making connections to STEM careers along the way.

ADEQ Reclaimed Water Rule Making Process
ADEQ has begun the process of revising Arizona's rules governing the reuse of reclaimed water and gray water.
Since the last revision in 2001, Arizona has seen a striking expansion in the beneficial reuse of treated wastewater.
The agency relies heavily on stakeholder involvement and expertise in developing the reclaimed water rule revisions. Listening sessions were held in Phoenix, Tucson, and Flagstaff to gather input on key needed changes. ADEQ developed a Stakeholder Issue Matrix updated with comments received as of June 8, 2016.
ADEQ will post any proposed rule changes online for public review and comment and notify interested stakeholders.
