On Saturday morning, August 13, 2016 from 10:00 a.m. until noon, there will be a special meeting of the Illinois Music Teachers Association at Windsor Park in Carol Stream, Illinois . The purpose of this meeting is to introduce and present Piano ABCs - Beginning at the Beginning, a Patented, Unique, Student-Friendly Piano Method for the 21st Century developed by Beverly Grace Joy. Piano ABCs is an incremental method for beginning and intermediate pianists that has endorsements from nationally and internationally acclaimed pedagogues. LETTER FROM OUR SCHOLARSHIP RECIPIENT

College scholarship chairperson, Pat Borchardt, received this letter from our scholarship recipient from last year, Nathaniel Lindstrom:

Hi, Ms. Borchardt,
I waited to email you so I could report that I successfully completed an undergraduate composition seminar taught by Georg Friedrich Haas and wrote a piece that was performed by the NYC-based ensemble counter)induction. Here's a link to the piece if you & the other teachers want to hear it:  https://soundcloud.com/nkleinstrom/subduction. I'll also be going to Italy this summer to attend the Light Composition Program at the Highscore contemporary music festival in Pavia. Thanks again for the financial help you've given me in pursuing my studies.

Sincerely,

~ Nathaniel

NOTE FROM THE EDITOR

Summer is a great time to enjoy a good book.  I have a suggestion for a unique summer read.  Mitch Albom's book, The Magic Strings of Frankie Presto is the perfect book for musicians. The narrator of the book is the Spirit of Music.  Albom's description of the power of music puts into words what a musician feels and understands.

I found myself writing down my favorite lines from the book...

" All humans are musical. Why else would the Lord give you a beating heart?"

"The secret is not to make your music louder, but to make the world quieter."

"Everyone joins a band in this life. And what you play always affects someone. Sometimes, it affects the world."

"You cannot write if you do not read," the blind man said. "You cannot eat if you do not chew. And you cannot play if you do not"-he grabbed for the boy's hand-"listen."

"Talent is a piece of God's shadow. And under that shadow, human stories intersect."

It is obvious that Albom understands music and God.
Enjoy your summer.
