 First Aid Classes

You love your pet--take the time to become your pet's first responder.

When an accident happens, do you know how best to help your pet?  You can't call 911 if your dog gets stung by a bee or your cat swallows a bottle of pills.  By taking one of these classes, you will learn how to best support your pet until you reach a vet.

The 4 hour session on Monday, April 27th provides information on injury assessment, restraint/muzzling, rescue breathing, canine and feline CPR, choking management, heat and cold injuries, bites and stings, seizures, poisoning, fractures and limb injuries, and the creation of a home pet first aid kit.  This class includes training materials & a first aid handbook.  It is an excellent credential for people who work with pets since you will be obtain a Certification of Completion valid for two years.

The 90 minute class on Saturday, May 2nd will touch on some of the more common situations such as choking, a demonstration for CPR for cats and dogs, heat stroke/heat stress/safety precautions about hot weather, plus disaster preparedness including what you need to have on hand in case of a disaster.  This class is great for pet parents who want a basic knowledge of pet first aid without having to commit an entire day to training.

The cost of the classes is being paid by Chartiers Custom Pet Cremation so there will be no charge to participants attending the classes.  Space is limited so participants must register to attend. Please contact Deb at 412/220-7800 to register today.  You may also check the Chartiers Custom Pet Cremation website www.ccpc.ws for details.

Friends of Jupiter Walk

Sunday, April 19, 2015

10:00 AM

Boyce Park Tanglewood Shelter

Plum, PA

This family friendly, one-mile, non-competitive walk is Jupiter's way of saying "thank you" .  The event was inspired by Jupiter, a 5 pound, 5 year old Maltese who was saved by Northcentral Maltese Rescue, Inc from a horrible life in a puppy mill.  Through NMR, he was given the appropriate medical care before finding his forever loving home.  Now that he is enjoying his new and well deserved life, it is time to thank his friends at the rescue.

Northcentral Maltese Rescue, Inc. is a non-profit made up entirely of volunteers dedicated to helping special little dogs like Jupiter.  They take in dogs from across the United States and Canada from owner surrenders, medical and behavior issues and puppy mills.  For more information about NMR, go to

malteserescue.homestead.com

The walk will start at 9am and in addition to the one-mile walk, there will be a bake sale, basket raffle, pet photographs and local pet business vendors.

The event will take place rain or shine and registration is at 9 AM. It is $20 per participant and pet and $5 for each additional pet. Participants may walk with or without a pet. For more information on the Friends of Jupiter Pet Walk visit www.facebook.com/friendsofjupiterpetwalk
