News from Eberle Design Inc. & Reno A&E

Eberle Design's  Continued Commitment to Quality

Eberle Design Inc. (EDI) has a long established commitment to building quality products. EDI first achieved ISO Certification in 2005 and continues that commitment today with current ISO9001:2008 certification. The quality management system is ingrained in the culture of EDI operations and provides continuity between policy, performance, objectives and targets.

Standard operating procedures are used to define and control each step of the design, build and testing process. Standard procedures coupled with production metrics, provide early identification of trends and challenges, allowing EDI to contain the issue and minimize the impact to production and our valued customers. We also monitor customer returns to identify possible product improvements.  Improvements to components and hardware design have been completed as a result of production metrics and customer returns.

Six sigma tools are also used to improve product quality and reduce process variation. Some of these tools include Kaizen events, fishbone (Ishikawa) diagrams, failure modes and effects analysis (FMEA), first pass yields and business risk analysis. We focus on using these tools to make quantifiable improvements and actionable recommendations.

A few of the improvements that have been made as a result of these activities include; process improvements and new equipment purchases. Automated test programs have been developed to reduce operator errors in watching visual indicators and manually switching inputs. Equipment has also been purchased to eliminate operator technic process variation. These efforts have resulted in a customer return rate of less than 0.09%.

Moving forward, EDI is committed to continuing to improve our high quality standards and we will continue looking for opportunities to make additional improvements.

Introducing Reno A&E's New Malfunction Management Units

Reno A&E's new intersection Malfunction Management Units are setting new standards in reliability and functionality. The MMU2-1600GE and MMU2-1600G monitors are fully compliant with the recently updated NEMA TS2:2003 (R2008) Standard for Traffic Controller Assemblies, (Amendment #4-2012).

The MMU2-1600GE and MMU2-1600G can be programmed for eight-phase, dual-ring operations by answering a series of questions presented on the monitor. The Wizard can setup the eight Flashing Yellow Arrow (FYA) Types (A-H) defined by the NEMA Amendment 4-2012. The Wizard can set up eight additional Flashing Yellow Arrow Types (I-P). The Wizard will set the proper configurations and check the program card jumpers for any configuration issues. Selecting "Easy FYA Programming" allows standard program card programming for FYAs.

Attention EDI Model 242 DC Isolator Users

Caltrans no longer uses the EDI Model 242 DC Isolator and has updated the TEES Specification (Errata #2 December 2014) and QPL to require only the new Model 242L DC Isolator.
  • The Model 242L is powered by the 24Vdc cabinet power supply (Model 206L).
  • No AC Line power is required in the Input Assembly.
  • The Model 242L is backward compatible with all cabinets using the Model 242.
  • The input bias voltages are completely electrically isolated.
  • Model 244L provides four channels in the half-width space of a Model 242L.

EDI is in full production mode on the Model 242L and 244L. Contact your EDI cabinet component supplier for samples.

Reno A&E's Signal Monitor Recertification Program Increases Safety & Reduces Liability

Traffic signal cabinets have to continuously operate in harsh environments and should be thoroughly tested periodically to ensure safety. The Reno A&E Signal Monitor Recertification Program will help agencies quickly, easily, and cost-effectively perform this necessary testing task.

Reno A&E's Signal Monitor Recertification Program helps ensure safe operation and provides a new two-year warranty, hardware and firmware updates, minor repairs, test report, new warranty label, and a certificate of recertification for any RAE signal monitor less than 12 years old.

All signal monitors returned for recertification will be subjected to rigorous testing in accordance with our Total Quality Assurance (TQA) and ISO 9001:2008 programs on a quick turnaround basis in order to get units back in service quickly.  For more information on how we can tailor a program for your agency, please contact Reno A&E's Sales Department at +1.775.826.2020 and also visit our website here.
