This year's annual Backroads of the South Shore History Symposium : Land & Sea: Historical Agriculture and Aquaculture of the South Shore offers an exciting opportunity for regional historians to share research and projects happening at local museums and historic sites. Presentations will explore the varied and fascinating history of farming and fisheries on the South Shore. Keynote speaker, Robert S. Cox, will discuss Massachusetts Cranberry Culture. Mr. Cox is the Head of Special Collections at the University of Massachusetts, Amherst. A historian and archivist, Mr. Cox recently authored a trilogy of books on New England Culinary History: A History of Chowder (with Jacob Walker, 2011), Massachusetts Cranberry Culture (2012) and New England Pie (2015). Harbor Illumination Commemorative T-Shirt Design Contest for Hull Students

HLM invites Hull High School and Memorial Middle School students to submit designs for this year's Hull Harbor Illumination commemorative t-shirt. The theme of the t-shirt design is "The Harbor Illumination: A Community Happening" and must include the text "Hull Harbor Illumination 2016". In addition to having the design printed on this year's Illumination t-shirts, the winning entry will be featured in print and social media, and the student will receive a cash prize of $100 and a scholarship to participate in HLM's youth rowing program for fall, 2016. The winner will also be presented onstage at the Festival on Saturday, July 30, 2016. Entries must be submitted electronically to [email protected] by 5pm on Thursday, April 14. Join Hull Conservation Commissioner Sheila Connor for a fascinating look at the shifting landforms of the Hull peninsula. Sheila will share her research of a historic study of Nantasket Beach conducted more than a century ago - a fascinating project from both the archival and geological perspectives.
Nantasket Beach Lecture Series is co-presented monthly by the Hull Lifesaving Museum, the Friends of the Hull Public Library, and the Department of Conservation and Recreation.

Our young explorers LEGO Club will build the Deep Sea Explorers set, complete with research vessel and shipwreck. We will also learn about the real shipwrecks of Boston Harbor, and how modern technology is helping underwater archaeologists learn about 19th century wrecks.

Be sure to include our Coast Guard Art Exhibit in your list of "can't miss" events. This compilation of twenty-one works by 17 artists on loan from the U.S. Coast Guard Art Program is on display through May 31, 2016. The museum is open Monday through Thursday and Saturday from 10-4:00 pm.
