Join ArtCetera at The Nightlight for a behind the scenes talk with Steve Felix, executive director of Akron Film+Pixel/The Nightlight, and the movie Boydhood. Steve will speak at 5:30 p.m. and the movie starts at 5:50 p.m. The cost is $6.50 for ArtCetera Members.

Here's a little about the movie from David Fear:

 

"In 2002, Richard Linklater started constructing a fictional story centered on a six-year-old boy named Ellar Coltrane. For 12 years, Linklater, Coltrane, actors Ethan Hawke and Patricia Arquette and several nonprofessionals got together once a year, working out a loose storyline and incorporating his young star's experiences into the mix.

 

Stepdads come and go; ditto a girlfriend. Time is marked by fluctuating weights and heights, as well as a jukebox's worth of pop songs.

 

Not much happens...just life, in all its messy glory. A boy becomes a man before one's very eyes. The result is nothing short of a masterpiece, an extraordinary collaborative gamble that succeeds in charting the rocky terrain of childhood like no other movie. It's impossible not to watch Coltrane go from baby-faced kid to emo-brooding teen without thinking about one's own journey. They-and we-grow up so fast."

Downtown Akron Partnership Emerging Leaders is excited to participate as a packing team for Blessings in a Backpack Akron

BiB is a non-profit program that provides food for children in need over the weekend when they are not receiving school lunch. You are invited to participate on the DAP EL team and help pack 300 bags of food for Akron Public School children to take home over the weekend - children who may not have food otherwise. 
 

 

 

How can you help? Volunteer! Join DAP EL at a packing session. Sign up to volunteer and bring a friend, colleague, family member or significant other with you! You can volunteer one time or every time. Email Jacquie Tinnemeyer - [email protected]

Get a jump on turkey day with the Sweet Potato Shuffle and Cranberry Crawl! Junior League of Akron presents the second Early Bird Bustle, a 5K run and one-mile walk to benefit our Kids in the Kitchen initiative. Kids in the Kitchen is a program designed to help communities address the urgent issues surrounding childhood obesity and poor nutrition.
