'UNDER THE BOARDWALK,'
'UP ON THE ROOF'
AND ONSTAGE IN TIFTON
THE DRIFTERS COMING TO BENEFIT TIFT LIBRARY FOUNDATION
Mark this on your calendar: The Drifters, original members of the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame, are coming to Tifton for an evening of great music, spirited
dancing
and fine dining -- and all for a great cause.
On Thursday, Sept. 8, the Tifton-Tift County Public Library Foundation is bringing one of rock & roll's founding vocal groups to the UGA Tifton Campus Conference Center. It is the Library Foundation's annual fundraiser.
The Drifters have had numerous hits, such as "
U
p on the Roof," "Under the Boardwalk," "This Magic Moment," "There Goes My Baby," "Dance with Me," "Spanish Harlem" and "Stand by Me." They are
once again touring the United States under the auspices of their original management team.
The Drifters were in the
very first class of inductees into the
Rock & Roll Hall of Fame and were
inducted along with The Beatles,
the Rolling Stones, Bob Dylan and the Supremes. Their classic tune "Under The Boardwalk" is the most played R&B record of all time.
They have played at the White House on three occasions, have given a benefit concert in Berlin the day the wall fell, have performed for the Pope, for the Queen of England, for Nelson Mandella and have toured the world for the USO in three war zones.
And now they will perform for you
live in Tifton. Tickets will go on sale soon at the
UGA Tifton Campus Conference Center. For information, call 4
78-227-7126.

READING ALOUD
RICKI READER TO BREAK SILENCE TODAY
Ricki Reader has been the
Reading Capital mascot for years, but has been a bit
quiet about it. Well, that is about to change ....

break his/her silence for the first time and "read aloud'' at 12:15 today at the Summer AR Reading Center at the United Way of South Central Georgia,
211 W. 4th St.
Listeners will enjoy the magic of hearing a dramatic voice in action.

Foundation for Educational Excellence.

VOLUNTEERS TO GLEAN BLUEBERRIES
The Society of St. Andrew will be gleaning blueberries this week and the remainder of the month. Volunteers may join the group to
harvest the berries in Chula for donation to churches, schools and agencies that are feeding children during
the summer break from school.
Any
excess berries will be
provided to
Tift Towers seniors, the Soup Kitchen, Ruth's Cottage
and other partners that
feed
folks in the community
. Volunteers are invited to take home a bag of berries to share with family, neighbors and friends.
"This is a great activity for families with kids, youth groups, high school students that need community
service hours, and anyone willing to spend a couple of hours to enrich the lives of Tifton residents,"
said
