 FAA Unveils Incentive for General Aviation Aircraft Owners to Equip with ADS-B Out Avionics
On Monday, June 6, the Federal Aviation Administration announced
a $500 rebate incentive for general aviation aircraft owners who equip their U.S.-registered, fixed-wing, single-engine piston aircraft with required ADS-B Out avionics technology. The announcement was made by U.S. Transportation Secretary Anthony Foxx, FAA Administrator Michael Huerta and FAA Deputy Administrator Mike Whitaker. According to the FAA, the rebates will be available this fall, and the FAA will announce the specific date soon. The rebates are available on a first-come, first-served basis for one year, or until all 20,000 rebates are claimed, whichever comes first. The FAA estimates that as many as 160,000 aircraft need to be equipped by the Jan. 1, 2020, deadline.

 Online Resource Offers Answers to Questions about the FAA's ADS-B Rebate Program
Following the FAA's announcement of its ADS-B rebate program, the agency published an online resource that includes answers to some frequently asked questions. Why is the FAA implementing the program? When will the program be implemented? If an aircraft owner purchases avionics now, could they be eligible for the rebate? Who is eligible for the rebate? How can people keep updated? The answers to these questions and many others are available on the FAA's Equip ADS-B website.

2015 General Aviation and Part 135 Activity Survey
The 38th annual General Aviation and Part 135 Activity Survey is now underway. It is the Federal Aviation Administration's primary source of information about the size and activity of the general aviation and on-demand Part 135 fleet. The survey is conducted on behalf of the FAA by Tetra Tech, an independent research firm, and all survey responses are confidential. Tetra Tech would like to hear from everyone who receives an invitation to complete the survey to prepare accurate statistics on aviation activity.  Vic Avionics has Unexpected Beginning
Victor Lopez's idea to open an avionics business began as part of a university pro
ject with the assignment to look for and evaluate a business opportunity in any industry. Lopez chose avionics, a sector he knew well.
He had served nine years in the Mexican Air Force as an avionics specialist working on the Bell 212, Bell 206B, MD 530 and other aircraft. Even as he attended Universidad Interamericana del Norte, Lopez worked for civilian aviation maintenance shops, earning money to help pay for school.
It turns out that the university project would be the blueprint for Lopez's future. In 2008, a few years after earning his engineering degree in communications and electronics in Chihuahua, Lopez returned to Mexico City and took his project live, starting Vic Avionics in a small space at Mexico City International Airport

New FAA Course -- Applying Systems Safety Principles to Product Certification: Aug. 16-18
The intent of this three-day course is to focus on how systems engineers should apply concepts of system safety principles to the products they will certify. It will expand the approach systems engineers can take to build safety into the products they certify in the context of applying the rules and considering other safety-related factors that supplement FAA regulations. SATCOM DIRECT received the initial STC from the FAA allowing installation of the SD WiFi Hub on Citation CJ3 aircraft. In addition,
Satcom Direct was the first business aviation distribution partner to transmit data over Inmarsat's new Ka-band Global Xpress network via the Inmarsat-5 F-1, F-2 and F-3 satellites; now, it is the first to activate Jet ConneX service for business aviation customers. Satcom Direct also said it enhanced its SD GeoServices with the addition of premium Route Alerts technology.
JET AVIATION ST. LOUIS earned the Diamond Award for Excellence in the Aviation Maintenance Technician Program from the FAA for the fourth consecutive year.
DAC INTERNATIONAL, a Greenwich
AeroGroup company, received Part 25 AML STC for the Esterline CMA-6800 Display for the Hawker 800/800XP/1000, Bombardier's Challenger 601-3A/3R, Dash 8-100/200/300 and its 415 Superscooper, Cessna Citation 650, Dassault Falcon 900, Fokker 50 and the Gulfstream III.
VECTOR AEROSPACE secured a contract from Aero Asahi to perform an Airbus Helicopters AS355 F2 12-year major inspection, including wiring, refurbishment and exterior paint. The company also announced the completion of a 7,500-hour major inspection ("G-check") and 12-year major inspection for an Airbus Helicopters AS332 L1 Super Puma helicopter operated by the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department. In addition, Vector Aerospace said that the EASA granted design organization approval to its U.K. division. Finally, the company received FAA STC approval for a new ADS-B solution, which is applicable for installation on the Airbus Helicopters AS332, Leonardo-Finmeccanica AW139 and Sikorsky S-76 series of helicopters.
SPIRIT AERONAUTICS announced that beginning July 1, customers will be able to lock-in their ADS-B upgrade and ensure the required equipment is reserved for their aircraft.
ACR ELECTRONICS is celebrating 60 years of manufacturing this year with various celebrations.
GOGO BUSINESS AVIATION named the organizations to receive the company's highest dealer honor for 2015 -- the Gogo Business Aviation 51,000 Five: Constant Aviation; Duncan Aviation; Gulfstream; Textron Aviation; and West Star Aviation.
TRUENORTH AVIONICS introduced connected.aero, the company's new airborne connectivity service. Connected.aero will be aviation's first hybrid cloud solution designed to amplify bandwidth and enhance the in-flight connectivity experience to be more like on the ground. In addition, TrueNorth Avionics said its Simiphonē airborne connectivity system was selected for a Gulfstream G650 completion.
DUNCAN AVIATION said it is making a significant investment to stage critical tooling and turbine engine support equipment in Mexico to ensure the quickest response to the most common and urgent requests from business aviation operators.
FREEFLIGHT SYSTEMS said the FAA granted it a Section 333 exemption for the purpose of testing avionics specifically related to unmanned aircraft systems integration into the national airspace system.
WEST STAR AVIATION was named an authorized dealer for SmartSky 4G equipment sales and installation.
WESTERN AIRCRAFT, a Greenwich AeroGroup company, announced that it is the first Pilatus authorized service center in the U.S. to complete a Life Extension Program on a Pilatus PC-12.
STANDARDAERO's Augusta, Georgia, MRO facility delivered its first Falcon 50EX Rockwell Collins Pro Line 4 to Pro Line 21 integrated cockpit avionics upgrade in early June.
TRUE BLUE POWER and Avmax announced the receipt of a Transport Canada Civil Aviation Part 23 STC for installation of the True Blue Power TB44 (46 amp hour) lithium-ion aircraft battery on Viking Air DHC-6 aircraft, commonly known as the Twin Otter. The two companies have applied for FAA approval of the same Part 23 STC.
