2016 Synod Assembly
 and Day of Learning
Church Together:
Welcoming the Stranger
June 2 - 4, 2016

At the 2016 Synod Assembly, we gathered around the theme "Welcoming the Stranger." We met at the Crowne Plaza LAX in Los Angeles, California. The assembly was chaired by Bishop Guy Erwin.  In attendance were  301 Voting Members, consisting of:   93 Ordained Ministers,  208 Lay Leaders, three  Diaconal Ministers, two  Associates in Ministry, and  14 Members of Synod Council. Also in attendance were 63 non-voting  Visitors.

The Synod Assembly was preceded on June 2 by "Day of Learning" workshops, which included a special showing of the recent Under the Gun documentary.

New Start congregations were profiled in a special publication as Stories of Faith in Action, available as a download from the synod website. You can see extended versions of these "SOFIA" stories on the synod newsfeed.

Especially moving were the testimonies of eight "Witnesses to Welcome," who spoke of their experiences in coming as immigrants to the United States, or about the process of bringing refugees into safety. If you didn't get a chance to attend, we will be posting videos of these "Witnesses to Welcome" on the synod website.

You can find out what happened at the Synod Assembly on the synod website, check out reports in the Assembly Guidebook App, and view videos shown at the Synod Assembly

Thank you to the planning committees, synod staff, mission teams, agencies, and especially attendees for making this year's assembly possible!
