We hope you enjoy our second podcast about Heartwood School. Heartwood is a center-based program located on our campus in Mason serving students with moderate and severe cognitive impairments, severe multiple impairments, autism spectrum disorders and traumatic brain injuries. The student learning environment will amaze you and so will our instructors. A new podcast will be released on the second Thursday of each month through the remainder of the 2015-16 school year. Heartwood staff teamed up with MSU College of Engineering to design a therapeutic mechanical pony for our students. Students at Heartwood can have physical limitations and sometimes struggle with things we take for granted such as sitting or balancing. The MSU team worked with our staff to create a safe device that helps develop coordination and build core muscles. Thank you to this wonderful team of engineers for their thoughtful design. Check out our story on page 73 of the MSU Design Day booklet. 

In November, local districts in the Ingham ISD service area were awarded Early Warning Signs grants ranging from $5,000 to $15,000. As part of the continued effort to improve student achievement, all 15 high schools in the Ingham ISD service area are increasing their focus on early warning signs and dropout prevention.  There are many reasons why students decide to stay in school or leave. The purpose of these grant dollars is to assist ongoing local district efforts to help students stay in school by customizing the supports they need to be successful.
