RONNIE'S WEBSITE

Astrological Society of Princeton (ASP)

Hi all

Repeating my last newsletter with the addition of Jupiter going direct and what to expect. Please remember to sign up for Mars Retro webinar (Early bird ends May 14) and Intermediate Jyotisa Webinar on Divisional charts. Please scroll down for it all.

Although I have been talking about this Mars retrograde period (April 17-June 29) in bits and pieces, I am finally going to do a webinar on just this Mars retrograde and retrograde arc period (just in time for the Sun-Mars opposition on May 22), which will include world events AND going through each of the ascendants and how it affects you. Even though I am doing a few free shorter talks online, this webinar as always includes an extensive handout and will be about 90 minutes. Please scroll down below to register.

And I am finally resuming my Jyotisa classes now at the Intermediate Level starting with the Divisional Charts. If you sign up and you missed the Navamsha presentation you will get it as a bonus prior to the webinar since that chart is the most important divisional. Scroll below for information on how to register. I will be starting a new series on Fundamentals of Jyotisa in the fall and a course on Sanskrit for astrologers. These classes will be simultaneous in New York City and as webinar. If you are interested please email me so I can put you on a list.

As I have stated over the last six months and in my Sensitive Degrees Webinar, we have five retrograde planets between April 28-May 9 so these have been a few strange weeks with Donald Trump clinching the nomination (at least here in the U.S.) and not as many ups and downs as I had thought. The number of retrogrades will be reduced to four when Jupiter goes direct on May 9 (it is stationing as we speak), and down to three when Mercury goes direct on May 22. On May 9, Mercury also will form its usual inferior conjunction with the Sun halfway through its retrograde cycle, and this year it is closer to the earth than it has been in quite a while. Read about that  here

Also click here to register for my free webinar for ACVA on Saturday May 14 on the Mars-Saturn conjunction. It will be a half hour talk, and then questions. There will be no handouts and it will be posted on youtube in the future.

I will be in Hartford CT where I will be speaking on Thursday May 19 and will be available for readings on Friday May 20. The lecture will be about retrogrades and stations with a focus on--you guessed it---Mars retro. Please come and see me and/or book a reading if you are in the area. Information  here

A lot going on in May and June including the annual Jyotish Kumbha Mela in Saylorsburg PA. I will be there from June 2-6 if you want to say hello and will be on the Saturday evening panel. Info here.

In the meantime, I hope you are enjoying spring despite all the retrogrades and maybe feeling more sluggish than usual. You may want to do whatever exercises you do to focus more since sometimes these periods lend themselves to procrastination, or spreading yourself too thin. The New Moon in tropical Taurus/sidereal Aries may help redirect your energies. Remember that in India between Saturday May 7 at 12:31 pm IST and Monday May 9 at 12:53 pm IST it is considered to be among the most auspicious days of the year because both the Sun and Moon are exalted in sidereal Aries and Taurus.

If you would like to book an initial reading or an update, both of which will tell you about how the current planetary weather will affect you, please do so to the left and I will contact you. I have tried to keep my rates down, and I have not raised them in quite a few years, so as long as I can I will keep the current rates. I am currently booking readings for the week of May 23.

Also you can still purchase the annual 2016 Sensitive Degrees webinar for $40. You will get an almost three hour recording, audio visual webinar and 69 page handout. You will receive the handouts and recordings within 48 hours after the webinar. Email me.

If you did not read my interview in Jyotish Star Magazine when it came out in January, please do so. I was thrilled to be named Jyotish Vashista. The editor-in-chief, Christina Collins, along with her staff, chose me because I received my M.A. in South Asian Cultures and Languages from Columbia University so that I could learn Sanskrit and enhance my knowledge of Indian Astrology.

Please remember that in addition to monthly newsletters about planetary weather, you will also get separate newsletters about horoscope sales, classes, webinars, etc., so if you are not interested in learning astrology, but do want to read the news each month, please do not unsubscribe, just delete the advertisements when they arrive.

You can friend me on Facebook and Twitter.

All good wishes
Ronnie
Jupiter Goes Direct

The good news this month is that Jupiter went direct and is
regaining its speed and its identity as the Greater Benefic after its annual four month retrograde journey. Just to remind you that Jupiter went retrograde Jan 7 2016 at tropical 23 Virgo 14 R and sidereal  29°Le15' R  in uttaraphalgunī. Jupiter Direct went direct May 9 2016 at tropical 13Virgo15 D and sidereal  19°Le 16' D in hasta . If you have any planets or points in between those degrees you will be hit by the Jupiter transit three times.

Jupiter is the greater benefic, and always brings expansion but also false hopes of security. Sometimes Jupiter makes us feel so complacent that we do not see the writing on the wall. What all this is a prelude to is to say not to get frustrated if things did not go exactly according to plan during Jupiter retrograde. Profits are always slower during a Jupiter retrograde as are sales, and promotions. If you think you got a great deal on something, think again, and look hard for any loopholes or any deceptions, In short, don't be fooled if things started to look like they were going one way, and then suddenly they took another turn, or even if they stall out altogether.

Now that Jupiter has gone direct on May 9, things will start to turn around in the area of your life where Jupiter appears, but because there is still Mercury (retrograde until May 22), Mars (retrograde until June 29), Saturn (retrograde until August 13) and Pluto (retrograde until September 26) things may still go slowly but will continue to move forward. If you use the tropical zodiac, Jupiter stationed direct on May 9 at 13 Virgo, and if you use the sidereal zodiac it stationed direct at 19 Leo.  It will still be frustrating until the next Jupiter Rahu (North Node) conjunction on June 20 at 15 tropical Virgo, 21 sidereal Leo, and if you have any planets, points, or angles close to that point, you will be feeling the culmination of something you have been working towards. The same is true if you have anything in a trine relationship to Jupiter and North Node, meaning 15 tropical Taurus and Capricorn, or 21 sidereal Sagittarius and Aries.

But don't be frustrated if it is not the classic textbook wonderful Jupiter. On this annual sojourn it was thwarted by Saturn which aspected Jupiter from tropical Sagittarius and sidereal Scorpio. Ditto for retrograde Mars, and ditto for Neptune. Ouch. But it will at least still be Jupiter, but once it changes signs and then houses you will in August and September that Saturn will no longer be obstructing it. From here on until Jupiter changes signs you should take advantage of good fortune shining down on you. It will move into sidereal Virgo on August 11 and into tropical Libra on September 9. If you look at the house which these signs occupy, you can see what will finally work out for you that may have begun before Jupiter went retrograde in January, and where it will go starting in August for sidereal and September for tropical.

The houses have similar meanings in both Tropical and Vedic astrology, but since there are some differences here is the list below of a few keywords for each house in each system. They are by no means exhaustive.

Tropical Houses: 1. personality, body, appearance; 2. finances, possessions, values; 3.  communication, siblings, short journeys, learning;  4. Family, Mother, Home; 5.  children, recreation, entertainment; 6. Health, service, pets; 7. marriage, contracts, partnership; 8. business transactions, sexuality, life and death matters; 9. Higher education, travel abroad, publishing, law; 10. profession, status, father; 11. gains, friendships, hopes, dreams; 12. compassion, spirituality, limitations, solitude

Vedic Bhavas (Houses): 1. appearance, destiny, temperament, personality, constitution; 2. Money, family life, food, speech, early childhood; 3.  Siblings, Fine arts, courage, desires; 4. Mother, happiness, real estate, vehicles; 5. Children, romance, investments, speculation; 6. Open enemies, work, competition, obstacles, illness; 7. Marriage, partners, contracts, passion; 8. Life and death cycle, research, accidents, other's money, inheritance; 9. Father, teacher (guru), religion, higher learning, opportunity; 10. Career, status, public recognition, reputation; 11. Profits, rewards, gains from work, awards, older siblings; 12. spiritual practice, secret enemies, foreign travel, debt, confinemen

Mars Retrograde Webinar.
Tuesday May 17, 2016. 7:30-9:00 PM EDT

A little late perhaps but still very relevant. This workshop will take place on the day of Mars, Tuesday May 17 at 7:30 PM Eastern Daylight Time. Like all my webinars if you cannot attend live you will receive the handouts, audio-visual webinar, and audio recording the next day along with everyone who attended live. And as usual this will be done from the point of view of Tropical and Sidereal. Remember that even though Mars retrogrades from April 17-June 29, the retrograde arc or shadow extends from February 17, 2016 (when Mars crosses the point where Mars eventually goes direct) to August 22(when Mars crosses the point where Mars stationed retrograde) and includes the Sun-Mars opposition, which occurs on May 22. Mars-Saturn conjunction occurs on August 24 two days after Mars leaves the retrograde arc (also called the shadow). The workshop will have some material repeated from the Sensitive Degrees Webinar, but it will mostly contain new material. The following is what will be covered.
  • Astronomy of Mars retrograde and Mars cycles
  • Overview of past Mars retrograde periods.
  • Overview of the retrograde arc, retrograde cycle, Sun-Mars opposition, and Mars-Saturn conjunction.
  • Mars straddles tropical Sagittarius/Scorpio and sidereal Scorpio/Libra. It straddles Vishakha and Anuradha.
  • Effects of Mars on world events, including but not limited to US election.
  • Effects of Mars in the upcoming months on each ascendant
  • How to cope with the stress of Mars alongside other retrogrades
  • Questions and Answers.
Fee: $25 through midnight May 13.

On May 14 and after. Fee: $30

Registration closes at midnight on May 16. If you register after that you will receive the recording and handouts, and will be able to attend workshop if there is room. Once you sign up you will receive sign up information and handouts by the morning of May 17.

Divisional (Varga) Charts in Two Parts.

Part One. Sapta Vargas. Sunday June 12. 12-2:30.EDT
One of the most important functions of certain varga charts is whether or not the planet is strengthened or weakened, and this is one of the factors that comprise the calculation of shad bala, or the six strengths of the planet. If the birth planet is in a kendra or trikona bhava of one of these charts, then it adds points to their strength in sat bala. If they are in other houses, they will not contribute to the planet's strength. In these next two webinars, we will focus on these, and try to look at these varga charts more traditionally ie. what Varahamihira says in Brihajjataka, as well as add other variations on how to use them.
Some astrologers use six varga charts to calculate planetary strength, and some astrologers use seven. They are known as the sat (six) varga or sapta (seven) varga charts.  These are rāśi (birth chart), hora (wealth), drekkana  (siblings), which is the equivalent of the Western decanate chart, navā ś a (marriage and dharma), dvadasa ś a (parents), and trimsamsa (fortune and misfortune). Adding saptamsa (children) they become the sapta vargas.  This workshop will explore the drekkana, dvadasamsa, trimsamsa and saptamsa with examples. We will especially look at the importance of the sarpa drekkanas, the 22nd drekkana and the 64th navamsa in terms of health.
Part Two. Dasa Vargas and the Balance of Vargas.  Sunday July 10. 12-2:30 EDT
Adding dasamsa (career), shodasamsa (vehicles), and shastyamsa (strengths and weaknesses), they become the dasa (10) vargas. We will look at these (minus Navamsa which we already looked at). We will also look at other varga charts from classical texts which make up the shodasavargas (16 vargas), which include vimsamsa (spirituality), as well as the panchamsa (power), shastamsa (health), and ashtamsa (life and death), which are not one of the classical 16. Then we will look at my preliminary research on twins and how this relates to the vargas in ways you may not consider. This is important for practicing astrologers since in the era of in vitro fertilization, many multiples are being born.
If you cannot attend, as usual you will get the audio/visual presentation, audio recording, and handouts and the opportunity to also email me questions in the same way that attendees will get these.  Once you sign up for the two parts, I will send you the Navamsa workshop from last year, since it will be important to have that information.

This workshop will be held in two parts in order to break it up and review the first part without moving on to the next.

Early Bird Rates by May 25. Fee: Part One and Two. $75
undefined
After May 25. Part One and Two. $90.
If you wish to pay for each webinar separately, they are $45 each. Early bird rates only apply to purchase of two together.
