A message from the Headwaters Equine Leadership GroupHELGMessage

2015 has been an exciting year for Headwaters Horse Country and HELG! Building on the foundational work of 2013 and the market launch of Headwaters Horse Country in 2014, this year we have taken advantage of opportunities presented by the Toronto 2015 Pan American Games and refined our equine industry focus.

Now it is time to take a look back at some highlights from 2015!

Horse Experience 2015 was a month long showcase that offered visitors the opportunity to experience the diversity and excitement of horses in Canada.  Events included horse sales, farm tours, equi-tourism, d emonstrations, exhibitions, h ospitality, entertainmenta day at the races, c linics and learning opportunities.

The first Parade of Horses statue was transformed live at the Can-Am All Breed Equine Expo (April 3-5) by the Headwaters Horse Country 2014 Signature Artist, Amanda Melinz.

The Headwaters Equine Leadership Group had the difficult task of narrowing the list to the twenty five artists and collaborations who brought the magnificent Parade of Horses statues to life.

The event, which took place at Waterstone Estate and Farms, focused on the benefits and opportunities of King's partnership with Headwaters Horse Country.

During the month of May, the statues were resident guests at the Caledon Equestrian Park, visited regularly by their artists who painstakingly and lovingly brought them to life.

The statues were the centrepiece of the evening and the artists who brought them to life were honoured by the guests in attendance, municipal government representatives, the business community, and the generous patrons who purchased the statues.

The statues went on display at various locations in Headwaters, and visitors and residents now have the opportunity to follow the "trail", take their photos with the horses and learn the story and inspiration for each of these magnificent works of art.

The Pan Am flame was lit during a ceremony in Teotihuacan, Mexico before it travelled to Canada.  The torch relay visited more than 130 communities in Ontario before making its final stop at the opening ceremony of the 2015 Pan Am Games in Toronto on July 10th.

The Pan American Games are the world's third largest international multi-sport Games.  The Caledon Pan Am Equestrian Park and Will O'Wind Farm in Mono played host to nearly 150 Pan Am equestrian athletes and horses, and at least 3,000 spectators per day.

The 2015 Headwaters Horse Country Stable Tour took place during the weeks of the TORONTO 2015 Pan Am Games.  This event saw facilities from Caledon, Dufferin, Erin and King open their doors to the public.

The Headwaters Parade of Horses was awarded the 2015 Creative Cultural Event Award at the Town of Orangeville's sixth annual Mayor's Breakfast for the Arts on September 24th.  The event served as a kick-off to the 2015 Culture Days celebration.

Culture Days 2015 took place September 25-27 and the Parade of Horses was proud to be a featured event.

November |
Tourism Innovator Award
The Headwaters Parade of Horses received the Tourism Innovator Award at the annual Taste of Tourism awards on November 25th.

Add to these, the full calendar of agricultural fairs, competitions and seminars and 2015 was an incredible year in Horse Country!
