Farm to School Month was established in 2010 to showcase the increasing importance of and positive impact from farm to school programs. 

What are YOU doing to celebrate Farm to School Month? Vermont's theme this year is Taste Test Mania! Celebrate F2S Month by conducting a taste test and invite your state legislators and school board members to lunch.

USDA REPORTS FARM TO SCHOOL GRANT PROGRAM A SUCCESS!

A new report from the USDA shows that its Farm to School Grants have not only increased the likelihood that millions of kids around the country eat more healthful foods at school, but also that the grants are creating more local markets to which farmers can sell. 

NEW FUNDING FOR FEED AND NOFA-VT

VT FEED received funding from the Vermont Agency of Agriculture, Food and Markets, and both VT FEED and NOFA-VT received grants from the Vermont Community Foundation.

VERMONT FARM TO SCHOOL NETWORK STRATEGY PLAN

Here's the Goal: By 2025, 75% of Vermont schools will lead the cultural shift to a values-based food system that engages 75% of our students in integrated food system education; community-based learning; nourishing universal meals; and the experience of self-efficacy. They will purchase at least 50% of school food from a socially just and environmentally and financially sustainable regional food system.

Now we have a plan to reach this goal!

PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT

VT FEED and NOFA-VT staff have attended and organized several workshops this summer covering a variety of topics spanning the cafeteria, the classroom, and the farm. 

SHELBURNE FARMS HOSTS JAMES BEARD FOUNDATION'S "BOOT CAMP" CHEFS 

From Sept 13-15 more than a dozen chefs from as far as 
Puerto Rico and California came to Shelburne Farms for the  James Beard Foundation's  eighth Chefs Boot Camp for Policy and Change. Their focus was on childhood nutrition, which dovetails with our mission.

We hope you watch them, share them with colleagues and friends, and are energized to continue working towards our goals with new ideas.
