Get your kicks in St. Joseph during some of the year's best annual events!

The month of June in St. Joseph is the setting for several annual and seasonal events that will help you officially kick-off the summer season!

The Northside Association of St. Joseph hosts the Northend Spring Festival, May 30-June 1, which includes a Saturday morning parade, duck races, craft vendors, kid's games, rides, dance performances, food, and a large fireworks display at night on Friday. Most events are held at Krug Park.

Also on June 1 is the Old-Fashioned Sunday Afternoon event at Mount Mora Cemetery. Visitors can stroll Mausoleum Row in Mount Mora, a 150 year old rural garden cemetery, and experience St. Joseph's past through intriguing stories told by costumed living history characters. Horse and buggy rides are also available during the event.

Beginning on May 30th through mid-August, stop by Coleman Hawkins Park in Downtown St. Joseph for some impressive live music performances in a relaxing outdoor setting. On Fridays, the Downtown Association presents
Sounds of Summer, an eclectic line-up of local and regional bands. And on Sundays through the summer, more live music in the park is scheduled for the
Imagine Eleven Concert Series.

Love art? The Midwest Artists Association sponsors
Art in the Park, June 6-7, an annual viewing of the work of local artists. Visitors can also see art demonstrations and meet hometown artists selling their work. Music and food vendors will also be on site.

Want to re-live the excitement of the Pony Express? Stop by the Patee House Museum on June 21 from 3 - 4 pm for the Pony Express Rerun, which will conclude after a 10-day trek across the United States from Sacramento, CA to Missouri. More than 550 volunteer riders with the National Pony Express Association cover the 1966-mile trail during this annual event.

Also this month, two festivals occur which celebrate our black culture in St. Joseph. The second weekend in June is
Juneteenth. Entering into its 20 year, this event commemorates the signing of the Emancipation Proclamation with a parade, art show, reenactments, drill team performances, pony rides, live music and food. The event is held at John Lucas Park at 18th & Charles on
June 13-15.

And on June 13-14 is a celebration for one of our musical natives, jazz great Coleman Hawkins. At the
Coleman Hawkins Jazz Festival various talented musicians from the region come together to perform day and night at Coleman Hawkins Park in Downtown St. Joseph. The event also includes art vendors and concessions.

Summer Fun in
St. Joseph!
Area families find fun
at local museums during
Museum Crawl 2014

The Museums Association of St. Joseph announces the launch of a new program, Museum Crawl. Participating museums in the St. Joseph area invite visitors to pick up a museum passport and visit each of the participating members, answering questions along the way. After completing the passport, kids can win a small prize from the final site. The crawl begins Memorial Day weekend and continues through Sept. 14.

"This self-driven history hunt is a fun way for kids and their families to experience our museums," said Melissa Swindell, Andrew County Museum, who worked to develop this project.

The Museum Crawl was developed to offer visitors a unique way to explore the museums in Buchanan and Andrew Counties. Participating sites include: Andrew County Museum; Walter Cronkite Memorial; St. Joseph Museums including the Glore Psychiatric Museum, Black Archives Museum and American Indian Galleries; Albrecht-Kemper Museum of Art; Wyeth-Tootle Mansion; Pony Express National Museum; National Military Heritage Museum; Northwest Genealogical Society; Robidoux Row Museum; and the Remington Nature Center.

"This region offers such a wide variety of museums, and all are very affordable," said Cindy Daffron, Pony Express, who had the original idea for the project. "This is a fun, affordable way for families to find education and entertainment this summer."

Participants are invited to pick up a passport at any of the museums. As people visit each museum, they have two questions to answer and then can get their passport stamped. Once the passport is completed, it can be turned in to win a prize.
