Greetings in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ!

We have much to be thankful for this May, especially for the new Disciples of the Way ministry in Watauga, Texas. Below you'll find information on the dedication of this ministry as well as our continuing work in Dallas.

Watauga Rededication Service

DOW Ministry Building, 6416 Watauga Road, Watauga, TX 76148

On May 4, 2014, many saints were blessed to gather together for the rededication of Disciples of the Way Ministry Building from what was formerly Zion Lutheran Church in Watauga, Texas. Pastor Craig Schinnerer, who baptized Pastor Baidaoui in 1991 at Cross of Christ LC, DeSoto, was the guest preacher. Therefore, we thank God for the gift of baptism and praise God for the past sharing of His saving Word in and through the now decommissioned Zion Lutheran Church, for Zion's gift of the magnificent facility for present worship and ministry, and in certain anticipation of the gathering of all the faithful in Christ's eternal Zion.

"For as many of you as were baptized into Christ have put on Christ. There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither slave nor free, there is no male and female, for you are all one in Christ Jesus". Galatians 3:27-28

Vicar Mahmood (left) and Vicar Bashir (right) are students in the EIIT (Ethnic Immigrant Institute of Theology) program at Concordia Seminary, St. Louis, MO. They both will graduate in August 2014 and be ordained as pastors in the Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod.

Pastors and vicars gathered for the rededication service from L to R: (Row 1) Rev. Douglas Kabell, Vicar Wilson Irfan Mahmood, Rev. Karim Baidaoui, Vicar Sabir Nazir Bashir, Rev. Brady Blasdel; (Row 2) Rev. Craig Schinnerer, Rev. Eric Hiner, Rev. Barry Kolb

Disciples of the Way Ministries is also grateful to the congregation of Our Redeemer Lutheran Church, Dallas, for its support and prayers as we continue our mission to the Dallas ethnic community in the Vickery Meadow neighborhood.

Children's Activity Program (CAP) Easter Celebration

The children of the adult ESL students had an Easter celebration as part of their activities. After the hearing the story of Easter about the Resurrection of Jesus-"as Christ was raised from the dead by the Glory of the Father, we too may might walk in newness of life"Romans 6:4-they were also reminded of the promise of eternal life- "And this is the promise which He Himself made to us: eternal life."

1 John 2:25

The children were excited to received bag filled with eggs, candy, pictures to color. They also learned the egg and the bunny are both symbols of new life or rebirth, and that Easter is celebrated all around the world... "For God so loved the world, He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish, but have eternal life. John 3:16

We are currently looking for a CAP Coordinator and additional volunteers for CAP and ESL. If you are interested, please contact Nita Karki.

Feedback from ESL Volunteers

Luke Gordon: Every Monday I have the privilege of working with students from all walks of life, who prioritize their education very highly.  My students... not only possess a thirst for dismantling difficult communication barriers but also have taught me a lot about life outside of the United States. This program has been a true blessing, and I'm grateful to be a part of it.

John Stettler:When I see how many challenges my students face I am reminded I need to share my life with others who have not been so lucky.

Kristy Nolan: Teaching ESL is a great way to  strengthen your own language skills in addition to helping those who really want to learn English. The thirst for knowledge is astounding. And it is amazing to see it all come together!

Helen Stettler: The ESL program is a great way to give back to society. It is easy to do: it is a gift of time. It is very rewarding. It is well organized and a great way to learn about other cultures and customs. Payment is in smiles and laughter: the best reward in the world.
