A DAY OF FUN ON DECEMBER 15, 2013

1st Grade Family Engagement

1st Graders and their Parents will visit the Winn Dixie in Lakewood to shop for groceries to donate the JFCS Winn Dixie Food Pantry and learn  how Winn Dixie helps to feed the hungry in our community. The bus will leave from the Front Parking Lot at 9:40 a.m.

8th Grade Play on Biblical Prophecy
Our 8th Graders have been working on the production of their play that will be performed in Parker for the other TIR grades on Sunday. This is a culmination of the 8th grade unit on Biblical Prophecy. The premier of the play will be followed by a cast party.

Holocaust Haggadah Kick-Off
The 6th Grade will begin their Holocaust Haggadah Project with a visit from Naomi Mirensky from JFCS and  Bob Fisher a Holocaust Survivor. The project which combines art and music in the design of the Haggadah will culminate with a seder on April 6th.

First Responder Cookie Project
Thanks to a generous donation from Rae Masin, TIR students will  make cookies to be delivered to 65 fire stations around Jacksonville on Christmas Day as a way of saying Thank You for all they do to keep us safe.

In addition, Firemen and a Fire Truck from Engine 51 will be on hand so our youngest TIR students can say Thank You in person to the First Responders who work so hard each and every day on our behalf.

For families who would like to bake additional cookies, please deliver them to Temple by 10:00 a.m. on Sunday, 12/22. Containers should list the number of cookies and if they contain peanuts/treenuts.  In addition, families who can deliver cookies on 12/25, should contact [email protected]  by 12/15.

virginia planThe Virginia Plan - Wednesday, December 18 at 7:00 p.m.
Who would have imagined that an American Jew of German origin could plot to bring 30 German Jewish teenagers to America in the height of the Nazi regime? And to Virginia, no less? The Temple will host Robert Gillette to discuss his book, The Virginia Plan: A Rescue from Nazi Germany. The challenges of pre-WWII and the US are revealed from the perspective of William Thalhimer, owner of Thalhimer Department Stores in Richmond, VA. Robert Gillette will discuss this previously unknown story as part of the Lawrence and Kathy Kanter Endowment for Jewish Preservation.
