The house was started several years ago but not completed. The local Habitat group plans to finish it but first must build the porch/deck. That will complete the outside and then the inside will be addressed.

Habitat for Humanity is planning a work day each Saturday until the house is finished.

This week's winter storm forced the Alzheimer's Association, Georgia Chapter, to reschedule its annual Alzheimer's Awareness Day at the Capitol to Thursday, Feb. 27.

Anyone who has not registered may still do so at www.alz.org/georgia or call 1-800-272-3900, which rings in the Tifton office Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. -5 p.m.

regional programs director. "Our region represents the largest geographical area of the state with 35 counties. Some of our local advocates cannot go at the new date, so please consider stepping up to be a Voice at our state Capitol on Feb. 27."

The purpose of Alzheimer's Awareness Day at the Georgia State Capitol is:

• To speak with our state senators and state representatives about the needs of those living with Alzheimer's disease or a related dementia and their families, and
• To raise awareness about Alzheimer's and related dementias at the Capitol among all legislators and state agencies.

This year, the specific plans of the group include:

• Advocating to strengthen Georgia's Respite Care for those with Alzheimer's disease or dementia;
• Creating a Georgia Alzheimer's Registry;
• Funding emergency placement for those with Alzheimer's disease or dementia when a care facility is closed or when a person, who has Alzheimer's disease or dementia, wanders.

More than 300 statewide advocates for those with Alzheimer's disease and related disorders are expected to convene at the Capitol for Alzheimer's Awareness Day. Advocacy training will be offered during a webinar on Saturday, Feb. 22.

Awareness Day participants will receive a VOICE T-shirt to wear, and lunch will be provided. There is no charge, but registration is required by the new deadline of 5 p.m., Friday, Feb. 21, in order to plan travel, meals and materials.

"This is your opportunity to tell your story of your family's journey with Alzheimer's or a related dementia to your state senator and state representative, and to ask them to support key legislation," said Sayles.

 "We began this annual award last year and the first recipient was Central Jewelers," says Tifton Rotary President Andy Borem. "The award was created to recognize those local businesses exhibiting high ethical behavior and a commitment to our community."

Criteria for the award, which will go to a business physically located in Tifton or Tift County, were 

developed by a committee of Tifton Rotary Club members. The nominated business must have consistently demonstrated high ethical standards of honesty and integrity in dealing with employees, customers and contractors while enhancing the economic well-being of the company and providing local jobs, opportunity and profits. 

In addition, the business must have participated in activities beneficial to the community beyond the provision of economic benefits of the business and must adhere to fair and truthful business practice reflected in the Rotary Four-Way Test: 

1.     Is it the TRUTH?

2.     Is it FAIR to all concerned?

3.     Will it build GOODWILL and BETTER FRIENDSHIP?

4.     Will it be BENEFICIAL to all concerned?

A committee of faculty and students from the ABAC business school will select this year's recipient.
