One of the best kept "secrets" of St. Joseph has to be the elaborate and thriving performance arts culture. Even the most discerning visitor will appreciate the variety and quality. From intimate dinner theater performances to a renowned symphony orchestra, it's easy to find an event or experience that's perfect for you.

Performing Arts Association:  Bringing professional entertainment to the Northwest Missouri region for over 30 years, the Performing Arts Association presents a varied season of programming including music, theater and dance. Join us at the beautiful and historic Missouri Theater in downtown St. Joseph. Past performances have included Broadway caliber productions and touring musical acts.


Upcoming events: 

April 2: Church Basement Ladies: 
A Mighty Fortress is our Basement

The newest and fourth installment of the Church Basement Ladies series of musical comedies, A Mighty Fortress is our Basement, presented at the Missouri Theater will bring another round of laughter and warmth. Tickets $12 - $35  

May 1: Ballroom with a Twist

This show pushes the boundaries of Ballroom dance, infusing it with the energy and intensity of the hottest and latest styles, including hip hop. Features singers from American Idol & dancers from So You Think You Can Dance and Dancing with the Stars. There will be an after party at the Ground Round - where you can actually "rub toes with the pros!"  $20 per person for the after party, $35 for two. Includes dessert and one drink ticket! Missouri Theater  

May 17: Local Arts Rock!

This event will feature three local bands and Performing Arts Association will host them at the Civic Arena.  It's a great party to kick off the summer season. Civic Arena, Tickets: $10

     

Saint Joseph Symphony:  The Saint Joseph Symphony is a 50-piece professional orchestra with a full season of concerts September through May, as well as pre-concert lectures, summer band and chamber concerts.

February 16: Valentine's Chamber Concert
Featuring the works of Elgar, Hahn, Bruch, Debussy and more. Chocolate Reception with Chef Ralph's delicious selection of creamy trifles and truffles following the concert. First Christian Church, Tickets $10 -$23  
March 29: High 5s with Alan Chow, piano     

Beethoven: Concerto No. 5 in E flat Major "Emperor" 

Shostakovich: Symphony No. 5. Missouri Theater, Tickets $5-$43  

April 26: Famous Last Words with Tami Petty, soprano
Mozart: Symphony No. 41 in C Major The Jupiter Strauss: Four Last Songs  Rachmaninoff:  Symphonic Dances, Op. 45. Missouri Theater, Tickets: $5 -$43       


Robidoux Resident Theatre
:  Robidoux Resident Theatre has produced 34 stunning seasons of Broadway-quality, live theater in St. Joseph featuring some of the most talented regional actors. 


Upcoming events:  

February 21-23: Shrek The Musical 

Based on the Oscar winning DreamWorks film that started it all, bring the hilarious story of everyone's favorite ogre to dazzling new life on stage. Missouri Theater, Tickets $10-$25.

April 10-13: Diary of Anne Frank   An impassioned drama about the lives of eight people hiding from the Nazis in a concealed storage attic, The Diary of Anne Frank captures the claustrophobic realities of their daily existence-their fear, their hope, their laughter, their grief. Missouri Theater, Tickets $10-$25  

 

Robidoux Landing Playhouse:  Robidoux Landing Playhouse is a smaller more intimate venue with dinner theater at its best! In addition to outstanding season, the Robidoux Landing Playhouse is also home to a stand-up comedy club, a jazz club, numerous dinner shows and even a children's theater summer camp.

March 14-30: Lost in Yonkers
Winner of the 1991 Pulitzer Prize for Drama and the 1991 Tony Award for Best Play, Lost in Yonkers ranks among the best American plays ever written.
May 2-18: Marvelous Wonderettes: Caps and Gowns
The first two Marvelous Wonderettes broke all attendance records at The Landing and the third installment is bound to do the same. We're back in 1958, and it's time for the Wonderettes to graduate in this long-awaited sequel to the smash Off-Broadway hit!


Western Playhouse: Western Playhouse is a summer theater company, supported by Missouri Western State University, whose purpose is to engage the community with family-friendly events. The Music Man and Mother Devine are two productions scheduled for this summer.
