TIFTON DANCE TROUPE AT NYC PARADE

We have much for which to be thankful here in South Georgia. As you gather around your Thanksgiving table, please remember those among us who are undergoing hardships and need our help and our prayers.
There is no reason for anyone to be alone or without a Thanksgiving meal. An anonymous donor -- a local doctor -- is quietly footing the bill for a free community lunch in Tifton on  Thanksgiving Day at the Tiftarea Conference Center, 804 W. 7th St., behind Applebee's.
BJ Smith, her crew and many volunteers will be serving a holiday meal from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. If you are alone, are a senior, are down on your luck, or just need to be with others, you are invited. If you can afford to pay, the funds will go to the Food Bank, Habitat for Humanity or Friday meals at the Leroy Rogers Senior Center. Any food left will be donated to he Soup Kitchen.

'ALL THAT GLITTERS' IN MACY'S THANKSGIVING DAY PARADE
 Seventeen dancers and their families of "All That Glitters" dance troupe from Carolyn Ellis School of Dance in Tifton are in New York CIty. The dancers will be featured in the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade with the Spirit of America productions beginning at 9 a.m. Thursday on NBC TV.  This will make the Tifton's group fifth performance since 1998 in this biggest holiday parade. The dancers represent our community well. While in New York this week, the dancers and their families have visited the "Today Show," the Statue of Liberty and other sites.

Tifton's Fulwood Park is once again being transformed into a winter wonderland as the City of Tifton prepares the park for the annual Festival of Lights -- the free, self-guided tour through thousands of twinkling lights and whimsical holiday displays.
City workers have been busy this week putting finishing touches on the displays. The lights are being turned on this Thursday, Thanksgiving Day.
Tifton's Christmas light displays are among the best in South Georgia and, unlike in many communities, there is no fee to drive through the park to enjoy the holiday enchantment.

and will stay open through 10 p.m. Friday night, Nov. 29
Santa arrives at 1 p.m. Friday, Nov. 29, and will be giving away free toys to the first few visitors.
Santa will be at the Tifton Mall until Dec. 23.
We will be offering photos. Sorry; no cameras or cell phone pictures are allowed, unless you buy a package of photographs.

Austin Brown, a professional singer born and raised in Tifton, will be featured in the new season of NBC-TV's "The Sing-Off," beginning Dec. 9.
America's top a cappella groups compete for a recording contract and $100,000. Brown sings with the a cappella group, Home Free -- one of 10 groups chosen to compete on television. Home Free, an all-male group, is based in Minneapolis, Minn., and performs across the country.

This year's season of "The Sing-Off" will run for seven episodes, with the finale telecast on Monday, Dec. 23 with a two-hour episode. Multi-platinum recording artist Nick Lachey hosts, and singer/songwriter Jewel will join the judges table alongside Ben Folds (Ben Folds Five) and Shawn Stockman (Boyz II Men), who are both returning.
Brown is a son of Betsy Hamen of Tifton. He has a close-up in this NBC promotional commercial. You can spot Brown at 19 seconds into the video.

TIFTON'S
HOMETOWN HOLIDAY
CHRISTMAS CELEBRATION
Tifton's annual Hometown Holiday Christmas Celebration gets under way on Thursday, Dec. 5, with the Tifton Heritage Foundation's annual Tour of Homes. On Friday, Dec. 6, the Mayor's Christmas Motorcade Musical is scheduled at the Tift Theatre.
Saturday, Dec. 7, is the big day with the Tifton downtown Christmas parade and downtown festivities throughout the evening.
Here is the schedule for next Thursday and Friday (Saturday's schedule will be in the Grapevine's next edition):

Concert features the Union Grove Church of God Life Band and Choir, the Whitehead Gospel Group, Travelers Rest Baptist Church Choir, Austin Kilby, Todrick Webb, First United Methodist Church Chancel Choir and Adult Ensemble.

IT'S A WONDERFUL LIFE!
PLAY WITHIN A PLAY AT ABAC DEC. 5
"It's A Wonderful Life: Live from WVL Radio Theatre" will be presented at 7 p.m., Thursday, Dec. 5 in Howard Auditorium at Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College. Part of the "ABAC Presents! Performing Arts Series," the play features the artists of Immediate Theatre Project.
Doors open at 6:30 p.m. 
Frank Capra's classic Christmas staple is reinvented with an innovative reworking of "It's A Wonderful Life" performed by the fictional studio employees of the WVL Radio Theatre. The story line involves a blizzard which prevents the professional voice actors of WVL from reaching the theatre to perform the Christmas classic. The show must go on, so a small and determined crew of performers band together to create the dozens of movie characters and scenes using nothing but their voices and a sound effects table.
While available tickets will be sold at the door on the day of the event, Series Director Wayne Jones encourages advance purchase to ensure seats. Individual tickets are $15 for adults and $10 for students under 18.

HARVEST OF PECANS FESTIVAL

Georgia Pecan Co. is hosting a Harvest of Pecans Festival beginning at 9 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 30 at 710 Ashburn Highway in Sylvester.

The event includes a free gospel concert at noon featuring Wayne Watson, a contemporary Christian artist, Grammy Award nominee and Dove Award winner from Houston, Texas.
There will be other gospel and bluegrass music, a kids maze and vendors available.

'TIS THE SEASON!
ABAC'S 'FIRST TUESDAY' CONCERT DEC. 3
Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College rings in the holiday season with a Jazz Choir concert at 4 p.m. Dec. 3 in the Chapel of All Faiths as part of the First Tuesday Concert Series.
The holiday concert is a 12-year annual tradition. It is free and open to the public. Refreshments will be served in the lobby of the adjacent music building after the concert.
The Jazz Choir is directed by Dr. Susan Roe, who heads the ABAC music program. Accompanist will be Dr. Douglas Jurs, assistant professor of piano and music theory.
Other performers include Wes Trull, a sophomore classical guitar music major from Fitzgerald; and Ashley Connelly, a sophomore clarinet music major from Thomasville. They will perform traditional Christmas carols that Connelly has arranged.
Arts Connection Director Wayne Jones will sing "Sweet Little Jesus Boy," and Roe will perform "O Holy Night." Erica Fitzgerald, a music major from Thomasville, will sing "Cool Yule" with the Jazz Choir, which will also perform "There Is Faint Music" before concluding the concert with "Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas."

'ADOPT A CHILD'
FOR CHRISTMAS
The Tiftarea YMCA is asking residents to adopt a local child for Christmas. The YMCA has a list of children whose families will not be able to provide Christmas gifts for them without assistance.
The Y asks that "adopters" provide a child with a laundry basket wrapped in clear cellophane filled with shoes, underwear, clothing, a Bible and toys. All baskets need to be dropped off at the YMCA,1657 South Carpenter Road, no later than Dec. 6.
The children will be given the baskets by Santa Claus at a special event on Saturday, Dec. 14 beginning at 9 a.m.

Annual Tree of Life lighting ceremony Dec. 12
Purchase a light in honor or memory of a loved one, friend or co-worker, all for a good cause.
Area residents will honor family and friends and remember lost loved ones at the Tree ofLife lighting ceremony to be held on the front lawn at Tift Regional Medical Center (TRMC) on Thursday, Dec. 12 at 6 p.m.
 An annual holiday tradition in its 28th year, the Tree of Life is sponsored by the Tifton Junior Woman's Club, raising money for a special fund benefiting patients of the TRMC Oncology Center and Hospice of Tift Area with special needs. With various giving levels, lights for  the tree are purchased in memory or honor of a special family member or friend. The Tree of Life provides much needed aid to cancer, hospice or seriously ill patients who are feeling financial pressures while undergoing treatment or care. The fund helps to pay for utility bills, groceries or special comforts. The decorative tree will be illuminated with a ceremonial pull of the switch by family members of patients who have received services from Hospice of Tift Area and the TRMC Oncology Center. The evening will also feature live holiday music, a poignant candlelight ceremony and a visit from Santa Claus, as well as a free dinner presented by the TRMC Food Services Department. "Real" snow will even cover the ground. "Tree of Life is a reflective event, but we also wanted it to be a celebration," said Joy Davis, event coordinator. "We'll remember those we've loved and lost, honor those still with us and celebrate the joy of life." Donations to the Tree of Life are being accepted until the end of December.
