PJC Classes Empower Vermonters
Building Empathy and Addressing Racial Oppression past participants say:

"I find myself talking about this all the time now! Being able to just begin the conversation made all the difference. It was interesting to address the personal prejudice that exists inside me that I often deny and deem harmless and to realize the power that it plays in my life."

"I learned how challenging it can be to talk to someone who expresses a bias in an empathtic way. I began to scratch the surface of this in the scenarios you offered. You presented these challenges in a positive and encouraging way that gives hope for change."

Join us the next three Wednesdays to explore the concept of white fragility, stereotypes and myths, and take action to create an anti-oppressive society. 6:30-8:00, Brownell Library, Essex Jct.  Register here.

Nonviolent Activism 101 past participants say:

"The most meaningful activity was the Coordinated Nonviolent Response to Systems of Oppression. It allowed me to answer a lot of questions and showed me some new questions I should be asking myself. The Violence Pyramid and the Cycle of Oppression activities were beneficial."

"I have always believed in a nonviolent activism, but after attending to this workshop I believe it stronger."

Join us this Saturday to learn about and practice nonviolence. We will build skills and strategies to lift up local movements. 12:00-5:00, Kellogg Hubbard Library, Montpelier.  Register here.

The Gods of the Hills
Tar Sands. Wind Power. Stealthy Deals. A small town fights back.
"The Gods of the Hills" staged reading followed by panel and Q&A

Sat, June 11, 7pm, Off Center in Burlington
Sun, June 12, 2pm, Off Center in Burlington
Sat, June 18, 7pm, Irasburg Town Hall

"The Gods of the Hills" taps into the hot button topic of energy production, from tar sands oil to ridgeline wind power. It raises issues of the loss of democratic process and local control in small communities, and how that is balanced against the urgent need for renewable energy. This drama explores explosive dynamics in the intersecting lives of select board members and their families in a rural town, a environmental group's lead attorney, and a state agency lawyer when both tar sands oil and wind power are slated to land in a small town.

Written and directed by Vermont playwright Lesley Becker. $8 tickets and available at PJC or online.
