Executive Director's Letter
What a difference a year can make! Last winter we drove through snow tunnels to reach the Museum where nor'easters would regularly whistle through the chinks in our building, exiting on the lee side with scarcely any loss of speed. This year the refurbished building feels ten degrees warmer, we've been spared the snowfall, and our winter calendar has gone smoothly so far.
What a difference ...
The Sea & Sky opening (cancelled last year) was well attended with 78 entries hung and juried by the well-respected artist Joseph McGurl who applauded the high level of work by our very talented South Shore artists. Come by and see the current exhibit of art from the Coast Guard Museum expertly selected by our curator, Victoria Stevens, on display until May 31, 2016.
On the rowing front, we hosted 40 athletes at the Crash Bob's, again cancelled last year due to snow. Triumphant rowers carrying trophy hammers were on view on Nantasket Avenue.
Snow Row last year was held appropriately in a hazy, dreamlike snowfall. This year - sun, 45 degrees with conditions near-perfect for over 275 rowers who came from as far away as northern Maine and New York City! Do follow the aerial camera link which appears later in this newsletter - the coverage is awesome.
This spring we launch a new rowing program geared to businesses and organizations: Team Outings and Team Building programs now being offered out of our Boston Rowing Center, and from the boathouse at Windmill Point. HLM's traditional work boats are an ideal platform for group outings, and for more structured team-building programs built around the lessons in group dynamics that rowing deals to us every day. More on the Team Building program here.
We hope you will join in our two upcoming fundraising programs to support HLM:
The Boston Indoor Rowing Challenge on Saturday, April 30th, compete for performance and fund-raising awards and prizes by showing off your erging prowess at The Club by George Foreman III in Boston, a couple of blocks from our base at the Barking Crab. Details at www.hulllifesavingmuseum.org.
The Harbor Illumination on Saturday, July 30th, the website is open for flare sponsorships in honor of a loved one. The Presenting Sponsor of this year's Festival and Boat Parade will be Russo Marine, who will help us pull off a much-expanded Illuminated Boat Parade at this year's event.

Snow Row 2016 Season Opener Breaks Records
Conditions were primed for a fast race, but expectations were exceeded for our 38th annual Snow Row. A blistering 27:31 time was laid down by the overall winners (former HLM youth rowers in the 1990's) Scott Bradford and Joe Stanley in their Ocean Shell Double, setting a new course record. Race results can be found on our website . Also, check out the amazing official Snow Row 2016 video done by our friends at Drone Pros. Read more.

Boston Light was first established in 1716 to be a way-shower for safe navigation into the fledgling maritime port of Boston. Today, U.S. Coast Guard Light Station Boston continues to flash its beam across Massachusetts Bay for its 300th year. The last manned Coast Guard Light Station in the country, it is located on Little Brewster Island at the entrance to Boston Harbor.

Keeper Sally Snowman will weave a story of the significance of Boston Light as a national maritime icon, past, present, and beyond.

Nantasket Beach Lecture Series is co-presented monthly by the Hull Lifesaving Museum, the Friends of the Hull Public Library, and the Department of Conservation and Recreation.

Team Building With HLM
Prompted by expressions of interest from several large corporations, HLM has developed a team-building program to leverage the unique qualities of rowing in multi-oar, traditional, sea-going craft as a powerful metaphor for team dynamics. Our rowing fleet offers an attractive platform for team-building, with a centrally located point of departure, attractive destinations in Boston Harbor, and equipment that is easy to learn and exceptionally safe.  Contact us for details of this program based at our Boston Rowing Center on Fort Point Channel in the heart of Boston.
