Principal's Message
April 15, 2016
Dear Families and Friends of OLQP:

As you may well know, our students in first through eighth grades are in the process of completing the IOWA/CogAT assessments. In the Archdiocese of Galveston-Houston, the assessment instrument used is consistent with the philosophy of Catholic education.  Testing data is used to measure individual student growth. It is also used to identify programs that are successful as well as areas for program improvement. The focus is on the care of the child and making OLQP the best that it can be. The testing data and reports are shared with parents thus providing another opportunity to work together.
The assessment used is a nationally normed standardized test. Student performance is compared to the performance of other students across the nation. The tests cover objectives that are based on both state and national standards.
Once received, the data will be analyzed by teachers and administration and shared with parents. An information night will be offered during May to help parents understand the reports and how best to use the data to partner with teachers for student success.
After the assessments are over for the day, classes share snacks, get some extra outside time, work on projects, and read. The students love the "no homework" aspect of the testing schedule. Soon, the days will return to the regular routine with so many exciting things to discuss and learn and study. In the midst of it all, we are honoring Our Lord and Blessed Mother by doing our best at whatever we have at hand and treating each other as we would like to be treated. There is no standardized assessment for that, but we see it and live it each day at Our Lady Queen of Peace Catholic School. Thank you for being part of the OLQP family.

Ad Majorem Dei Gloriam,
Mrs. Marianne Mechura, M.Ed.
