Mother's Day Offering
Remember the Mother's Day Offering

An important tradition will be renewed on Sunday, May 8, as Presbyterian churches all across SC collect the Mother's Day Offering for Presbyterian Communities of SC (PCSC).  This Offering is an important resource that allows PCSC to continue to care for residents who outlive their life's savings.  Collecting the Offering is an important commitment our churches make to this ministry that they founded over 60 years ago.  Please be sure that the cards and offering envelopes are available to worshippers on Mother's Day and encourage them to give generously.  If you have questions or need support, please call Franklin Fant at (803) 772-5885 or email him at Franklin.Fant@PresHomeSC.org.

The mosaic pictured above was made by Presbyterian Communities residents at The Village at Summerville and won 1st Place at the 2015 SC State Fair in the Fine Arts category.

Medical Mission Glasses Donations needed
SEEING THE AMAZON

We are inviting

churches in the Foothills Presbytery

to collect eye glasses

to be distributed to those who are the poorest of the poor.

It isn't uncommon that a person would walk for hours through challenging terrain along the Amazon to receive what we consider "$1 reader" glasses.
If you wish to help in this ministry out-reach project, please ask your congregation to donate glasses that they no longer use. Donate with the assurance that the glasses will make a huge difference to a person in the Amazon region.

Please bring your donations to the upcoming Presbytery meeting on April 24th at Eastminster Presbyterian Church.
Additionally any Over the Counter meds that you wish to donated would be greatly appreciated ~ think vitamins, allergy, nausea, diarrhea, antibiotic ointments/etc.

ARW Workshop at Montreat
The Annual Recreation Workshop (ARW) is an experiential 5-day event focused on recreation, worship, community, creativity, and the arts. Leaders from all aspects of ministry are invited to come and take hands on workshops. "Unexpected! Unexplained?" is 2016's theme. Jesus' ministry was full of unexpected stories and actions. Not every story in scripture gets tied up with a perfect little bow on top.  You know that if you have ever tried to explain the Holy Spirit to an adult, much less a child?  So make plans to come for a week filled with opportunities to explore the Holy Spirit, through scripture and what that can mean for your faith, your church, and your world.

ARW is designed for educators, youth workers, church volunteers, camp and conference professionals, pastors and ANYONE interested in developing more creative leadership skills. Each participant can select from courses in recreation leadership, worship design, ministries with all ages of people, music, creative arts and spirituality. Each course, along with the whole group worship and recreation events, will give those who come a myriad of resources to enhance their work.

Visit www.recreationworkshop.org  for more details and to register for the event held May 2-7, 2016 at Montreat.
Board of Pensions

After each regular meeting of the Board of Directors of The Board of Pensions of the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.), the Board of Pensions publishes The Board Bulletin, providing information on actions taken at the meeting. This Bulletin reports key information presented and actions taken at the spring 2016 meeting that affect plans and programs administered by the Board of Pensions.

Outlook special GA subscription
As you make plans to prepare your commissioners and delegates for the 222nd General Assembly, I hope you will consider using the Presbyterian Outlook as one of your resources. We already have content on our website addressing the possible plans to restructure our denomination, articles both in favor and opposed to overtures that propose changes in how we operate on a General Assembly level, and information on the candidates for moderator and co-moderator. Please access these freely!

Additionally, we are planning print issues that will address the major topics coming before the 222nd GA. We strive to make sure our coverage is balanced and informed. We seek to have writers from a variety of perspectives and we encourage rich conversation through letters, email and social media.

Face to Face
Face to Face

Connect! Network! Discern!

The Church Leadership Connection (CLC), a ministry of the Office of the General Assembly will host a Face to Face Event June 17 - June 21, 2016, during the 222nd General Assembly (GA) in Portland, Oregon. The event will bring together call seekers and representatives of congregations and other calling organizations.  Face-to-Face is an opportunity to connect with those in the search process in one place over several days.  Additionally, it is an opportunity to be open to the movement of the Holy Spirit leading you to places and people you may have never imagined. The event will include call seeker's and PNC training, networking opportunities, vocational coaching, one-on-one PIF reviews, a panel discussion and other educational opportunities for call seeker's and calling organizations. All call seekers (teaching elders, candidates, ruling elders, and other lay professionals) may participate. You may attend a part or the entire five day event.
Registration runs February 29 - May 27, 2016.

Peace Pole at Covenant
Covenant Presbyterian Peace Pole

These photos show the new peace pole that the adults and youth from Covenant Church made. The pole is located in the front corner of the church lot so that those passing by can see it. Each side has painted the word peace in a different language and a symbol of peace.  (English, Scottish, Japanese and Hebrew) The lower section of the pole has a handprint of each youth who participated in the painting!

to Salem Presbyterian Church, a 2016 recipient of this years DREAM Grant for their "Bridge" program!
The Developmental, Risky, Experimental, Adaptive Mission (DREAM) Grant, offered by the Presbyterian Mission Agency, encourages dreamers, risk-takers, pioneers and trailblazers.

Salem Presbyterian Church, Anderson, is working on developing a ministry for the whole person- and adapting to a changing multi-ethnic neighborhood in an urban setting.  The 40-member congregation has strong relationships with four key partners in the neighborhood, who are,
  • Working on the construction of a holistic home ownership program
  • Providing services for ex-felons, health care; day care, library, and more,
  • Developing relationships and trust between citizens and law enforcement
  • Educating children at In His Image, an alternative K-12 school
  • Providing summer camp and after school programs
By bridging the gap between individuals in community and resources to help them develop community awareness, self-confidence, and needed skills, Salem believes life that God intended for them will emerge.

*A very SPECIAL thank you to Central Presbyterian Church for supporting Salem Presbyterian Church with an additional donation to this wonderful ministry!*

And to Good Hope Presbyterian Church and Piedmont Presbyterian Church who both received the Mary Hemphill Fund (Grant) for much needed church repairs!

The Mary Hemphill Fund was donated in 1835 by Mary's parents in memory of their young daughter.  The money was originally given to the Synod of South Carolina for small church renovation needs.  Now, as part of the Synod of South Atlantic, and in fulfillment of the donor's wishes, the smaller congregations in South Carolina are the recipients of the fund.
