TIFT COUNTY FOUNDATION FOR EDUCATIONAL EXCELLENCE INCENTIVE GRANT
LEARNING ABOUT MUSIC AT G.O. BAILEY
PRIMARY SCHOOL
The Tift County Foundation for Educational Excellence, through its Virginia Tift Brumby Music Chair, recently gave a $704
incentive
grant to G.O. Bailey Primary School to purchase Orff instruments for the students.
The
Orff method is a way of
teaching children about music that engages their mind and body through a mixture of singing, dancing, acting and the use of percussion instruments. Lessons are presented with an
element of play, helping the children learn at their own level of understanding.
Brian Marchant, music teacher at G.O. Bailey Primary, says the students pictured above are accompanying the song, "Old MacDonald Had a Farm."

EXCHANGE CLUB SEEKING NOMINEES FOR BOOK OF GOLDEN DEEDS AWARD
The Exchange Club of Tifton is seeking nominees for its 63rd annual awarding of the Book of Golden Deeds -- the longest running project of the Exchange Club of Tifton and the national Exchange Club.
The Golden Deeds Award recognizes dedicated community volunteers who give endless hours of their time and talents toward making their communities better places to live.
"This is quite a big honor for a Tiftonite," says Regenia Wells, co-chairperson of the program. "They will join an elite group of individuals that have helped to make Tifton what it is today."
Wells said a nomination letter by friends, family or coworkers is needed. It's best when the letter is from an individual instead of a group. The letter should include lots of information about how the nominated individual is helping people and programs in the community.
"We discourage a single letter signed by a group of individuals," she says. However, multiple letters nominating one person is fine.
The deadline for nominations is April 15. Letters should be mailed to the Exchange Club of Tifton, P. O. Box 1621, Tifton, GA 31793.

ABAC BAND TAKES AUDIENCE ON 'WORLD TRAVELS'
Music from
Germany, Italy, Russia, Ireland and the
USA will be spotlighted at
7 p.m. April 11-12 when the
Concert Band at
Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College presents its spring concert,
"World Travels," in
Howard Auditorium.
Concert Band Director
Johnny Folsom said the concert on
April 11 will be
focused toward ABAC
|

FOLSOM
|
|
students and
prospective ABAC students. He said the
April 12 concert is more for the
community. Both events are
free.
The concert begins with the classic
"Ride of the Valkyries." And, since air transportation will be required for world travels, the band will perform
"Lord Guard and Guide the Men Who Fly," based on the
U.S. Air Force hymn.
Italy is the next stop with
"Italian Holiday." Folsom was inspired to include the song when he witnessed his son-in-law conduct the piece at standing-room only concerts at
Mississippi State University.
By this time in the musical journey,
jet lag may have set in. The ABAC Band reflects this mood with a rendition of
"Poor Wayfaring Stranger." After being refreshed, the audience will be whisked off to
Russia to listen to
"Waltz No. 2."
No trip abroad would be complete without a visit to
Ireland. From the shamrocks to the tin-whistle flutes and drums, there are inspiring melodies on the enchanted isle through
"Ireland: Legend and Lore."
And as the wheels touch down back on
American soil, no tune is more appropriate than to celebrate with John Philip Sousa's
"Stars and Stripes Forever."
Seating is limited, and concert-goers should arrive early. For
information, call
Folsom at
229-391-4944.
