"Magis" (pronounced mah-jis) in Latin means "more." In some contexts it can mean "the even more" - the furthest frontier - frontiers of reason, knowledge, the universe, and reality itself. Click on the link below to learn more.....
Even if we accept that God is real, why believe that he has personally revealed himself to mankind? In God So Loved the World, Fr. Robert Spitzer, S.J., probes this major question.
Since the early twentieth century, "scientific materialism" has so undermined our belief in the human capacity for transcendence that many people find it difficult to believe in God and the human soul.
As Aristotle noted some 2400 years ago, "Happiness is the one thing we choose for its own sake - everything else is chosen for the sake of happiness." One of the hottest topics in contemporary culture is happiness.
Dear Fr. Spitzer, I recently watched your new show on EWTN and have enjoyed it greatly. I have always been hesitatant to ask the following question. I love Our Lords Prayer but I have a question about one line; " ..Lead us not into temptation...". I have a difficult time asking God not to lead me into temptation because I don't think God would lead me into temptation. He may allow me to fall into temptation but will not lead me. After a great deal of thought and seeking an answer to my question, I think I found an answer in the C.C.C. It was brief so I would appreciate a greater discussion of the topic. I would love to hear your thoughts and insight on this.
Thank you and God Bless,
Ken
Dear Ken,
Good insight! You are absolutely correct -- "Lead us not into temptation is a Middle English translation of the Greek New Testament. The correct and contemporary translation is, "Put us not to the trial or the test."
This expression means do not let temptation or the devil or suffering have its way with us , but protect us from these things. I hope this helps.
God bless,
Fr. Spitzer
