Industry White Paper Outlines Strategy to Reduce Fatal Helicopter Accidents
An association and industry white paper was recently published that outlines a strategy to reduce fatal helicopter accidents by facilitating instrument flight rule operations in lieu of visual flight rules when conditions do not support safe flight under VFR. It also details a proposal to facilitate an economically viable IFR certification plan for single-engine helicopters. The white paper was prepared by the Aircraft Electronics Association; Helicopter Association International; American Helicopter Society International; and the General Aviation Manufacturers Association.

According to Peri, when a new inspector comes in like a storm trooper, defend from making judgements based on a first impression. Remember, the inspector's first impression of you may show your warts -- take the high road and listen! Listen from the inspector's perspective. Translate 'I don't like your manual' to 'we need to look at your business to ensure it meets the regulations.'

Policy to Discontinue the World Aeronautical Chart
On June 23, 2015, the Federal Aviation Administration announced its decision to discontinue providing the World Aeronautical Chart series. According to the FAA, technological advances in aviation navigation capabilities and charting products have made the World Aeronautical Chart series largely obsolete. Charting customers have shifted toward digital chart products. The World Aeronautical Charts are a derivative product from a more-detailed Sectional Aeronautical Chart series. With aviators using the more-detailed large-scale Sectional Aeronautical Charts and the digital versions in the moving map technology found in modern electronic flight bag systems, the World Aeronautical Charts are no longer needed. The discontinuance of this low-demand product allows the FAA to apply those resources to continue to modernize charting for safe and efficient navigation. More...

 Liberty University Combines Learning with Business
At Liberty University, students wanting to be an aircraft technician or aviation maintenance manager have a unique learning opportunity -- working in a real-world FAA-certified repair station. Located in the Blue Ridge Mountains in Lynchburg, Virginia, Liberty University's School of Aeronautics offers a Bachelor of Science in aeronautics with concentrations in commercial, military, global emphasis (mission work) and unmanned aerial systems; a Bachelor of Science in maintenance management; and an associate degree in aviation maintenance. The university owns and operates an FBO at the Lynchburg Airport as a stand-alone, for-profit business. Called Freedom Aviation, the FBO gives students a peek inside the aviation maintenance industry.

 PS Engineering Introduces New Products, Celebrates 30 Years of Business
In late May, PS Engineering introduced new products to the marketplace, part of the company's year-long celebration marking 30 years in the avionics business. In 1985, two young engineers went to work in a basement to solve a problem; conversations in a small airplane cockpit are uncomfortable at best, impossible at worst. Eric Persson, and Mark Scheuer, the P and S in PS engineering, sketched some circuits, connected some parts, and ultimately started a business called PS Engineering.

FLIGHTSAFETY INTERNATIONAL
and Embraer announced that the Legacy 650 simulator located at the Paris-Le Bourget Learning Center has been qualified to Level D by the EASA and the FAA; the company also said that its second Gulfstream G280 aircraft simulator has been qualified to Level D by the FAA. In addition, FlightSafety International selected Aeroglobo to provide Pratt & Whitney Canada Engine training in Brazil, and also said that MICHAEL BURGER was promoted to assistant manager of the company's Learning Center in Teterboro, New Jersey. Finally, FlightSafety International and the West Virginia University Institute of Technology announced an exclusive aviation management degree program partnership.
DAC INTERNATIONAL, a Greenwich AeroGroup company, reached a distribution agreement with NDT Systems Inc., an industry leader in the design, manufacturing and selling of high-quality, advanced ultrasonic testing equipment to the non-destructive testing marketplace. DAC International will represent the NDT Systems products in the U.S., Belgium, Brazil, Germany and The Netherlands.
ALTO AVIATION expanded its line of premium cabin entertainment systems by adding new fully integrated high-end custom audio/video solutions for business aviation. The company entered into an agreement with Innovative Advantage to use its AVDS nodes as an integral part of the ALTO audio/video solution. The company also named STEVE LORD senior technical sales manager.
REBTECH said that CRAIG ALLISON was named director of sales and marketing and will be based at the company's headquarters in Bedford, Texas.
BANYAN AIR SERVICE promoted JESSICA SMALLACOMBE to people relations generalist from people relations coordinator. She will manage Banyan's benefits, health and wellness, compliance initiatives and recruitment strategies. In addition, Banyan named ARLISA JERNIGAN director of people relations. The company also named ANDY JORAN as a sales manager for HondaJet Southeast.
AVIONICS INSTRUMENTS ELECTRONICS announced the first installation of the L-3 Modular Airborne Data Recorder/Acquisition System Single-LRU in the DHC-6-300 Twin Otter. The FA5300 series records up to 2,048 words-per second for a minimum of 25 hours and has the capability to record four channels of high-quality audio for up to two hours.
COMLUX AMERICA completed its ninth VIP interior completion on an Airbus ACJ320 aircraft.
ROCKWELL COLLINS unveiled ARINC UrgentLink, the first national disaster communications network for public safety that enables first responders, public health, public safety and critical industry officials to communicate with each other when traditional networks are damaged or destroyed.
JET AVIATION ST. LOUIS recently performed maintenance on three Embraer Lineage business jets at the same time -- a first for the aviation service center. All three Lineages are based in North America, but represent different owners.
DUNCAN AVIATION said it will no longer charge AOG fees for aircraft parts and exchange orders, including parts shipped directly from Rockwell Collins or Honeywell.

ACR ELECTRONICS' emergency locator transmitter was selected by Southwest Airlines for installation on its Boeing 737MAX aircraft.
SATCOM DIRECT reached an agreement to acquire Airbus DS SatCom Government Inc. ASGI is a government satellite communications business unit of Airbus Defense and Space for the U.S. market and will operate as a subsidiary of Satcom Direct Communications of Satellite Beach, Florida. In addition, Satcom Direct said it has become the first business aviation communication provider to provision and validate its services over Inmarsat's new Ka-band network. Expected to be available by the end of 2015, Jet ConneX will provide customers fast satellite data rates in business aviation, enhanced by Satcom Direct value-added services.
AVIATION SPECIALTIES UNLIMITED obtained EASA STC approval on the Bell 206 series and 407 helicopters to modify existing aircraft for night vision capability.
DALLAS AVIONICS entered into a dealership agreement with Live Wire for its American-made FaultChaser product.
SPIRIT AERONAUTICS recently fulfilled the requirements to expand its FAA-approved Capabilities List to include additional engine service ratings for turbine powered (jet) engines.
B. COLEMAN AVIATION recently completed installations of numerous GOGO BUSINESS AVIATION ATG-5000 and Aviator 200/300/350 systems on multiple airframe types, including a Gulfstream IV, Falcon 200 and Global Express.
