NBC-TV's "Biggest Loser"
came down to
Colby Wright --
who attended
Tifton's Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College
on a
rodeo scholarship --
and one other contestant to
be named among the
final three
in
next week's finale.
Contestants are
competing for
a
$250,000
grand prize.
Wright
, 31,
has
lost 101 pounds
in
11 weeks
.
He began the competition weighing 339 pounds.
He was the last to weigh in last night (Monday) for the final cut. His final weight before the finale wasn't shown, and viewers were told the final three will be revealed during next Monday's live finale.
Monday night's show began with the last six contestants out of the 16 that began the season.
Two were eliminated before the episode ended.
Wright's wife, Hope, was eliminated as a contestant
on the show Jan. 11.
Wright, who is a car salesman in Wayne County, Ga.,
lives in the small community of K'ville. He
was born and raised in Screven, has been team roping since he was 14, and has been a cowboy and a farrier (someone who shoes horses) for the past decade.
He was no longer able to rope and ride because of his size, so instead he has worked as an announcer at rodeos and as a disc jockey.

CARTER WINS GRAMMY
FORMER PRESIDENT GETS 2nd AWARD FOR RECORDINGS
Former President Jimmy Carter on Monday won a Grammy award for Best Spoken Word Album.
Carter, 91, was
honored for his work on the audio version of his book, "A Full Life: Reflections at  Ninety."
The
Georgian was up against
Dick Cavett's autobiography
"Brief Encounters: Conversations, Magic Moments, and Assorted Hijinks;" Patti Smith's reading of
"Blood on Snow;" Janis Ian's narration of
"Patience and Sarah;" and
Amy Poehler's tell-all
"Yes Please."
Carter won his
first Grammy for
Best Spoken Word in
2007 for
"Our Endangered Values: America's Moral Crisis."
He wasn't the only
older nominee recognized during
Monday's
58th annual Grammy Awards;
Tony Bennett, 89, won best traditional pop vocal album for "The Silver Lining: The Songs of Jerome Kern." And, 79-year-old
Buddy Guy won best blues album for
"Born to Play Guitar."

A LIGHT FROM
THE PAST ... FOR THE FUTURE
The Tifton
Heritage
Foundation has been photographically chronicling the construction of Colony Bank's new building at the corner of Second Street and Central Avenue.
In the Heritage Foundation's photo at left, the old light from the market/ice building that previously stood on the site is now lit again.
The light and the rounded block glass corner of the former building were its most distinguishing architectural elements. Colony Bank was preserved that look with a light tower and a rounded glass corner, as seen below.
The bank is expected to open soon.

is seeking a full-time Director of Children's Ministries
Responsibilities will be focused on kindergarten through
6th grade and include oversight of the nursery program.
The Director will work with other staff members
under the direction of the Senior Pastor.
The successful candidate should possess or be pursuing a bachelor's degree; have experience working with children's ministries and/or children's educational programs; experience working in and developing children's ministries; and possess a strong personal faith consistent with the United Methodist tradition.

20th CENTURY LIBRARY CLUB HEARS ABOUT HEART ATTACK RISKS
Members of the Tifton 20th Century Library Club, a member of the General Federation of Women's Clubs,
recently
heard from Terry Arthur of Tift Regional Medical Center, who shared some of the risks and symptoms of a heart attack.
The members were joined by three prospective members as well as several guests from TRMC, and were dressed in red in honor of Heart Health Month.
Bonnie Sayles, club president, presided over the meeting following Arthur's presentation.
The
105 women's clubs in
Georgia represent about
2,700 members. The
Georgia Federation was founded in
1896 with
Rebecca Lowe of
Savannah serving as its f
irst president. The clubs are known for working for the advancement of education, legislation, welfare and other phases of
civic improvement.
The
Tifton club started the
first library in
Tifton in the
early 20th century and
provides opportunities for women to participate in furthering their community. Members may choose how active to become in various community activities; the club receives points with the federation for participation.
The
GFWC-20th Century Club meets the
second Tuesday of each month,
September through May, at
2:30 p.m. in the
Leroy Rogers Senior Center. Interested women may attend.
