United States Senators to Address the 100 Black Men of Madison
U.S. Senator Russ Feingold and U.S. Senator Ron Johnson will serve as keynote speakers to Monthly Membership Meetings of the 100 Black Men of Madison. Concurrently, Senator Feingold is scheduled, 20 February and Senator Johnson, 19 March.
Senator Russell "Russ" Feingold is a lawyer and politician. He is a candidate for the U.S. Senate and previously served as a Democratic member of the U.S. Senate from January 3, 1993 to January 3, 2011. From 1983 to 1993, Feingold was a Wisconsin State Senator representing the 27th District.
Senator Ronald "Ron" Johnson is the senior United States Senator for Wisconsin and a member of the Republican Party. Prior to his election to the Senate, he was chief executive officer of PACUR, LLC, a polyester and plastics manufacturer.
The 20 February and 19 March 100 Black Men of Madison General Membership Meetings will be held from 8:00-10:00 a.m., Bonefish Grill, 7345 Mineral Point Road, Madison, WI 53711. Click here to register for the 20 February event.

Project SOAR
I don't have trouble learning, I have trouble living ...
The 100 Black Men of Madison are in the final stages of actuating Project SOAR in collaboration with a host of established community partners to address the achievement gap and the chronic absenteeism rate of African American youth in middle and high schools.
Bolstering the actions of the 100 BMM are Madison Metropolitan School District, City of Madison (Mayor's Office) My Brother's Keeper, United Way of Dane County, Madison Police Department, Dane County Executive's Office, Asset Builders, Madison Fire Department, African American Fraternities and Sororities, CUNA Mutual Group, AT&T, Michels Corporation, Schneider National and Convenience Electronics
The target population of this project will be African American male students, ages 12 -17, enrolled in either a middle school or high school of the Madison Public School District. The Madison Project SOAR will incorporate and serve students who are economically disadvantaged, from single parent homes, homeless, involved in foster care, involved in the juvenile justice system and other African American students that can benefit from the project offerings.

African American History Challenge Bowl
The 2016 African American History Challenge Bowl will be held Saturday, 2 April at the Doyle Administration Building of the Madison Metropolitan School District.
 The 100 Black Men of Madison African American History Challenge Bowl (AAHCB) is an educational program designed to enhance the appreciation and study of African American history. The AAHCB is open to all Madison Metropolitan School District Middle School Students with the goal of encouraging pride, self-worth and an appreciation of the African American legacy and culture.
The AAHCB is also a challenging and fun way for students to expand their knowledge of African American History in highly competitive local and national competitions.

100 Black Men of Madison Member Ray Allen Appointed Secretary
Wisconsin Department of Workforce Development
Ray Allen was born and raised in Milwaukee and moved to Madison in 1969 to attend college at the University of Wisconsin, from which he earned a degree in Journalism. Upon graduation, he went to work for the John Deere Company as a marketing representative.
He joined state government in 1987, when he was appointed to serve in the Department of Industry, Labor and Human Relations. Allen later was appointed Executive Assistant to the Secretary of the Department of Employment Relations, where he supervised the Division of Affirmative Action, the State Employee Assistance Program, and the state's Total Quality Management Training Program. He also served as the Director of the State Office of Employee Development and Training.
During the administration of former Governor Scott McCallum, Allen served as Executive Director of the Technology for Education Board, a state agency that administered financial assistance to Wisconsin's educational institutions to aide in the installation of educational technology. Beginning in 1996, he has served at the Department of Financial Institutions, including four years as Deputy Secretary. On January 21, 2016, he was appointed Secretary of the Wisconsin Department of Workforce Development.
Allen has been active in the Madison area community, serving on many community boards and commissions. He was elected to three terms on the Madison School Board, serving from 1995 to 2004. Allen is the former publisher and owner of The Madison Times, a weekly newspaper. He is a partner and Vice President of Madtown Paradies, which operates retail stores in Dane County's Regional Airport.
