our years ago, during the Class of 2015's first dental school exam, Serah Uddaraju broke the tension by warbling lyrics from "A Whole New World." At the podium on convocation day, he belted out the theme song of the Disney blockbuster "Frozen." As class president, Uddaraju was known for his hammy propensity to burst into song and bust some moves whenever he felt the urge, which was often. LEARN MORE

Dr. Anthony Volpe Honored as Top Rutgers Alum

Dr. Anthony Volpe
In the 1950s, toothpaste was merely something that made your teeth white and your breath fresh. But Dr. Anthony R. Volpe, an RSDM alum, helped transform it into a weapon that fights dental caries and gum disease. This month, Volpe, a former vice-president of worldwide clinical research at Colgate-Palmolive, was inducted in to the Rutgers Hall of Distinguished Alumni.  LEARN MORE

RSDM program offers free dental sealants to area school children

Students at the Cleveland Street Elementary School in Orange are one step closer to being cavity-free, thanks to RSDM. 
When students at the Cleveland Street Elementary School in Orange have a toothache, school nurse Lynn Jacobs is often the first to know. "I'm the one that sees them when they're in pain,'' Jacobs said. Children from the school are among more than 500 kids in Newark and nearby towns who have visited Rutgers School of Dental Medicine as part of a program to provide free check-ups and dental sealants, which prevent cavities.  LEARN MORE

Oral cancer screening event helps patients, raises awareness
Volunteers at RSDM's free oral cancer screening event

More than 150 patients were examined earlier this month at RSDM's oral cancer screening event, which helps raise awareness of risk factors for the disease and the benefits of early detection. Although over 30,000 Americans are diagnosed with oral cancer each year, according to the American Cancer Society, the public is still uneducated about many aspects of the disease.  LEARN MORE

Dr. Rafiel Benoliel
New Director of Orofacial Pain Center Announced

Dr. Rafael Benoliel has been appointed director of RSDM's Orofacial Pain Center, an internationally recognized institution in the study and treatment of pain. Benoliel, who is also a professor and associate dean of research at the dental school, will lead the research and clinical team at the center, the home of many breakthrough discoveries and one of the few accredited programs of its kind in the country.  LEARN MORE
