WHERE CAN I RUN TO FIND SAFETY?

The name of the Lord is a strong fortress; the godly run to him and are safe.
 Proverbs 18:10, NLT

Bang! Bang! Bang! The shots awakened us abruptly out of our sleep. We looked out the window to see what was happening. But after seeing nothing unusual and surmising that someone was shooting at another wild animal invading our neighborhood, my husband and I returned soundly to sleep.

Until we were awakened the next morning by a knock on our door from the police, questioning us about a murder that occurred overnight in our neighborhood.

There was a time when you could move to a safer neighborhood or city to get away from the violence occurring in the world today. But no matter where you live, no place seems to be safe anymore. According to the FBI's Preliminary semiannual Uniform Crime report for the U.S. for 2015, the number of rapes increased 9.6 percent, the number of murders increased 6.2 percent, aggravated assaults increased 2.3 percent, and robbery offenses were up 0.3 percent. And this increase didn't just occur in the poor or urban neighborhoods of our country, but the affluent and suburban ones as well.

Where can we go to find safety in an unsafe world?   According to one commentary on Proverbs 18:10 (http://biblehub.com/commentaries/proverbs/18-10.htm) , the righteous can take refuge in the name of the Lord as a strong tower because it signifies the attributes by which He is  known -attributes of mercy, grace, long suffering, goodness and truth. And this strong tower will not only serve as a source of safety when crime occurs, but also as a source of c omfort and peace when the righteous are affected by it.

So if you're looking for a place to run to escape the crime in our world today, take refuge in the name of the Lord. There is safety in his name and in his arms.

Sharing the word,

Jeaninne
