ATTENTION, ALL PARENTS (ESPECIALLY NEW TROOP PARENTS)!!!!
 
Troop 599's Annual Year End Banquet and Court of Honor is scheduled to be held in Wesley Hall on Friday, May 20, 2016.  MARK YOUR CALENDARS NOW!
 
As always, this celebration allows families to join together and honor the accomplishments of all our Scouts.  Do not miss it!
 
While many of the details have yet to be worked out, Thunderbird families are already planning this fun event!  If you would like to get more involved in the life of the Troop or are interested in meeting new, fun Troop moms and dads, please join us in helping to put on the best event ever.
 
This is a great way for new families to learn more about Troop 599!
 
We will meet in the FCE Room next Tuesday evening (February 16, 2016) at 6:35 PM, to update everyone on where we are and what we need to do next.  All Troop families are welcome to help out!

Troop Guides Needed !!!

Are you the next Troop Guide? Mr White is now accepting resumes and applications for this Senior POR. This role is open to Scouts that are currently Star or Life rank and are 14 years or older. For other details, requirements, or questions about this opportunity, please see Mr White.

NEW SCOUT HANDBOOKS AVAILABLE
 
The new Scout Handbooks (2016 Edition) finally arrived.  The Scout Shop is already sold out and is not expecting another shipment until mid-February.  The Troop, however, has a supply for sale.  New FCE scouts MUST use the new Handbook.  Older scouts may continue with their old Handbooks, although they may only complete the rank on which they are currently working under the old  requirements

The new Handbooks will be available for purchase on Tuesday and at future meetings.  Price is $15.00 for the regular paperback Handbook.  A spiral-bound Handbook is also available priced at $20.00.

Troop 599 Training Programs:

University of Scouting

University of Scouting will be held at Benjamin O. Davis High School on Saturday, February 13.  The University of Scouting is for all Scout leaders and has program's for Scouts including being a Den Leader.  Registration forms and further information can be found in the Sam Houston Area Council website by visiting www.shac.org (Training-Council Training Events - UOS ).
 
Powder Horn
Powder Horn 2016, Lead the Adventure, will be held on two weekends, April 8 - 10 and April 22 - 24, 2016.   Youth and adults will be exposed to high adventure activities and resources in and near Sam Houston Area Council.  To learn more go to http://www.samhoustonbsa.org/powder-horn.  Only a couple slots still available.

2016 SUMMER CAMP SIGN-UP - NOW ONLINE!

Everyone should be signing up for this year's Summer Camp in beautiful Tennessee!

Sign-up for our Summer Camp adventure June 25th - July 2nd continues online on the Troop website. We must have as accurate a number by February 10th in order to avoid an increase in fees. Remember that a full week of FUN and Merit Badges is only $575 per Scout and Adults are FREE! So come Hang-Out with Mr. White and Mr. Beebe and the rest of our Thunderbirds and sign-up NOW! Canada Boundary Waters Canoe Trip - Mid-Late July 2016

The Canada Boundary Waters Canoe Trip has been CANCELED due to a low level of interested Scouts. See Mr. Beebe if you have any questions.


February Outing - Fickes Ranch, Feb. 19-21, 2016

ONLINE sign-up is now open. The February Troop Outing will be Feb 19th - 21st and we are going to Fickes' Ranch near Flatonia, TX. The outing feature "Stealth Games", building Trebuchets and launching water balloons at Scoutmasters, and possibly an Iron Chef cooking contest.

March Outing - Mustang District Camporee, Mar. 4-6, 2016

ONLINE sign-up is now open. The March Troop Outing will be participating in the Mustang District Camporee at Camp Bovey near Navasota, TX. Troop 599 is hosting this year's camporee so it is guaranteed to be a lot of FUN! We will have Archery, Rifle and Shotgun Shooting and the Climbing Tower. In addition there is Fishing, Mind Games, and First Aid and Scout Skill competitions. We will have a Chili Cook-off on Saturdya night and a campfire. Sign up online as soon as you can!

As a reminder, each patrol has an adult mentor who has volunteered to advise the scouts of that patrol in various matters such as preparation for camp outs and rank advancement, and execution of their duties in their POR in some circumstances.
