Principal's Message
Week of February 22, 2016
Dear Families and Friends of OLQP:

After the storm, we are blessed with beautiful sunshine! I hope that you and yours have an opportunity to get outside and enjoy activities and time spent with each other. The students are getting an early dose of spring fever. In spite of their enthusiasm for outside time, plenty of learning is taking place! Students have been busy presenting their science fair projects at the Brazoria County Fair, working in the learning garden, learning how to tell time, problem solving with fractions, racking up Accelerated Reader points, playing math games on the computer, designing and engineering packaging to protect a raw egg from breaking, role playing what leadership is looks like, and more. Our students and teachers are AMAZING!

This week at prayer one of the things we talked about was the service project to help Fr. Tin provide fresh water to people in a rural area of Vietnam. Fr. Tin came to the school earlier in the year and shared a power point presentation about his mission work in that country. The students and faculty  were happy to agree to support this mission. The sixth grade class is sponsoring the project.  In order to "keep it real," the students were challenged to go home and ask parents to allow them to do chores to earn money to donate. We talked about the kinds of things they could do at home to make the contribution truly their own.  I hope that you have some help around the house that will result in sharing our good fortune with those in need.

Know that I am here to serve the students of OLQP. I am happy to hear your concerns and ideas. In order to serve you better, the OLQP Board of Trustees has developed surveys in order to reach out to families and staff. We are all working together to make mission focused, data driven decisions to better meet the needs of our students and community. Please take the time to thoughtfully complete the surveys. Also, feel free to email me or come by for a visit. On Wednesday, March 2, there are two opportunities offered.  From 8:30 - 9:30 in the foyer of Marian Hall (aka gymnasium), join us for the Principal's Breakfast. If an after work time is better for you, please come by the meeting room in the front of the school (where visitors sign in) for the Principal's Social from 5:00 - 6:00. This is an opportunity to put names with faces and enjoy fellowship. I hope to see you there.

As we journey through Lent, we meditate on the Passion of Christ. Each Friday, students pray the Stations of the Cross at 8:00 a.m. After Mass on Friday, students go to the chapel for Adoration. During the week, our daily prayer is the Divine Mercy Chaplet.  We are all feeling the grace of Our Lord's presence here with us at Our Lady Queen of Peace Catholic School. Please join us when you are able. Parents are welcome to come to prayer at 8:00 a.m.  Mass is celebrated every Friday at 10:00 a.m. Adoration follows Mass on Fridays during Lent. The chapel is available for visits most days.

Thank you for being part of this mission and ministry. Please keep us in your daily prayers and be assured of our daily prayers for you. Working together, we can do great things for our students and for the greater glory of God.
Ad Majorem Dei Gloriam

May God bless you and yours,
Mrs. Marianne Mechura, M.Ed.
