Bob's Quick Guide to Brushes!

Painters - watch this short video about paint brushes. It's a very quick 

guide about brushes and how I select the brushes for my work. So, 

here are some hints and advice that works for me.

• Choose brushes from an art store. Numbered brush sizes are meaningless to me. I'd rather hold the brush and feel the weight and brush hairs.
• Natural hair holds a large amount of liquid and pigment. Great for watercolor.
• Synthetic tends to be for moving paint around - commonly used for acrylic and oil paint.
• Flat verses round. I paint mostly with large round brushes because I can paint, sketch and draw with the same brush.
• For large painted areas or "cutting in" straight, sharp edges, I use the wide flat style.
• Thanks to a photo of Henri Matisse, I extend my brushes using tree branches. It keeps me painting loosely - plus for hand grip and comfort, I form a thicker handle with tape. My hand is more relaxed, and doesn't crimp or lock up.
