Children's Vision Massachusetts is a coalition representing optometry, ophthalmology, nursing, pediatrics, public health and families. Its mission is to create a systematic approach to children's vision care to assure that all children develop and retain their best possible vision.

VISIONARIES Spotlight on Success

Improving Annual Vision Screening Rates across a Pediatric Primary Care Network
The Pediatric Physicians' Organization at Children's (PPOC, Boston Children's Hospital), one of the largest pediatric primary care physician organizations in the country, cares for over 400,000 children at more than 90 primary care locations throughout MA.  The PPOC has implemented a system-wide approach to vision education and training and supported the development of practice-specific Quality Improvement cycles designed to improve well-visit workflows to ensure that vision screening is completed.  Referrals for eye exams have been elevated to the category of critical referral which means that the practice must track from initiation through closure communication between specialty care providers and primary care providers.  Practices are strongly urged to work closely with families to schedule visits for comprehensive eye exams and note the date and follow-up to ensure that the visit has been completed.

The 4th Annual Prevent Blindness Focus on Eye Health National Summit will be held on June 17, 2015, at the National Press Club in Washington, D.C. The Summit will include a variety of presentations related to this year's theme, "Game Changers in Vision."
