What better way to inaugurate the Shared Services section of our newsletter than to express our excitement about SKC being invited to present in June our shared services model at the 2015 Building Opportunities Conference in Vancouver, BC. Support Kansas City was asked to present by the Nonprofit Centers Network, who co-hosted the conference. In their search for nonprofit organizations providing shared services, SKC rose to the top of the list. It's been an exciting 15 years for SKC, and this is just one example of our growth and commitment to the mission of providing services to nonprofits and vision of a high performing, sustainable nonprofit community.

We've chosen to format and theme our newsletter around sharing. In addition to learning about the work we do as shared service providers, we know the Shared Resources, Shared Spaces and Shared Voices sections of our newsletter will provide valuable information and insight into the work of the nonprofit sector. We will be reaching out to and convening others in our community as we gather information and resources we hope you will find beneficial.

We'd like to double congratulate Elizabeth Liddle, CPA, for 10 years of dedicated service to SKC. Elizabeth was recently promoted to Client Accounting Manager, and SKC is very grateful for her expertise. We look forward to Elizabeth's expanded role as an accounting manager.

Francie Mayer, Client Accountant, retired on May 31, 2015, after ten years of service to Support Kansas City. Francie first joined Support Kansas City in February of 2005 and was integral to the growth and sustainability of Support Kansas City's accounting services. We wish Francie the best in her future endeavors!

Welcome to our new associates!

SKC welcomes Megan who has joined the Database/Development Team as a Client Administrator. Megan has a background in both marketing and data analysis. She also has an MBA from University of Central Missouri and a Bachelor of Science degree from Southwest Baptist University.

Debbie has joined SKC's Accounting Team as a Bookkeeper. Debbie has a background in nonprofit organizations that includes serving as an executive director and working as an associate pastor. She has a Certificate of Ministry from Central Baptist Theological College.

Gay has joined SKC's Accounting Team as a Client Accounting Manager. Gay has a background in nonprofit accounting including serving as treasurer for several small nonprofits. She is a Certified Association Executive with a specialty in fraud risk. She earned her CAE from the American Society of Association Executives.

Linwood Area Ministry Place (LAMP), at the site of the former Linwood Presbyterian Church at Linwood Blvd. and Bruce R. Watkins Drive, is transforming one of Kansas City's most visible landmarks into a vibrant campus of community services. The initial phase of redevelopment is to be completed in late Summer 2015 and includes the adaptive reuse of the former sanctuary structure built in 1923, as well as the adjacent Harold Thomas Center built in 1931.

Central Exchange, a Kansas City networking organization primarily for professional women, is observing its 35th anniversary by encouraging its 1,000-plus members to participate in volunteer projects.

The program is called "35 for 35." Thirty-five Kansas City area nonprofits are being selected for Central Exchange members to commit to volunteer time on specific days or provide items for donation drives. Members of the public are invited to join Central Exchange members at many of the 35 events.

In April 2015, Support Kansas City awarded the Excellence in Nonprofit Leadership Awards to Community LINC, who won the award for an agency with a budget of $1 million or more. Girls on the Run of Greater Kansas City also received the award for an agency with a budget of $1 million or less. The panel of reviewers that selected the award winners reconvened following the selection process to discuss how to improve the award process and converse about what they felt were the common ideas and practices that should be shared with the community.
