Cante Waste ya Nape Ciyu zape ye ("I shake your hand with a good heart" in Lakota). Happy
Native American Month! My travels this month have taken from Anchorage to Miami and I have thoroughly enjoyed meeting tribal leaders and philanthropic organizations engaged in movement building.
I have been overwhelmed by the support for Native Americans In Philanthropy in the Native community. There are so many esteemed tribal leaders and elders, who were with NAP from its birth, invested in seeing NAP grow to the next level of philanthropy. We will share their stories via video and quotes in the month of November.
Be sure to register for our upcoming NAP Events: Your Living Legacy, Tribal Government IRC 7871, and Membership Listening Circle. You can also help support NAP on Give to the Max Day Nov. 12, 2015.
In our member news, we have
Native Arts and Cultures Foundation 2015 Regional Artist Fellowships and
First Peoples Fund is partnering on a new Intercultural Leadership Institute.
This month features some stories around Tribal Philanthropy. Read about the Puyallup Tribe's generous donation of $50,000 to the Colville emergency fund, and the American Heart Association and Shakopee Mdewakanton Sioux Community's roundtable on Native American nutrition. In other Philanthropy news, our Joint Affinity Group partner EPIP Welcomes new ED Tamir Novotny.
Our resources include Independent Sector's
Threads: Insights from the Charitable Community, which is a report out from an intensive series of community conversations held across the country that captures the frank thinking of leaders from nonprofits and foundations. You can also find the application for the 2016 Honoring Nations awards program.
Thank you for all the hard work you are doing for tribal communities. We stand on the shoulders of our ancestors and in the month of November we remember their wisdom.
Wopila (deep gratitude),
Sarah Eagle Heart
