Welcome to the Second Harvest of Northwest Pennsylvania's
October 2015 Newsletter
New Logo. New Website. Same Mission.
We have been hard at work at the Second Harvest Food Bank of Northwest Pennsylvania making some updates to the way we look. We are proud to announce the release of our new website at www.NWPAfoodbank.org as well as our new, redesigned logo.

The new website  has a modern, restructured look, and has become much easier to navigate. The move to www.NWPAfoodbank.org demonstrates our commitment to all 11 counties in northwest Pennsylvania, and the website focuses on our mission, educational material, ways to get involved and showcases the programs we offer. The process of finding food has become much more simple, as our new Agency Locator provides extensive information about pantries, soup kitchens, Kids Cafes and Produce Express Mobile Distributions in our area.  And it was built with the mobile-user in mind, so it looks great on your phone!

Our new logo contains versions of elements that have been present since we were founded in 1982, but has updated with fresh and vibrant colors. The logo continues to highlight one main visual element: the cornucopia, which demonstrates our primary mission of providing food to those in need. The words "Food Bank" have become more prominent, as we operate in a unique position, distributing nearly 13 million pounds of food to 167,700 people through our 442 member agencies.

Take a minute and check out www.NWPAfoodbank.org now. Is there something you'd like to see added to the website? Just email us and make a suggestion!

Hunger Action Month Recap

For food banks across the country, the month of September is known as Hunger Action Month. Food banks are encouraged by Feeding America   to use September as a tool to promote hunger awareness in their communities. See how Second Harvest shared our mission and encouraged others to get involved.

S.N.A.P. Challenge
Could you survive on a budget of $4 per day for food and drink items?

The average S.N.A.P. recipient in Pennsylvania has approximately $4 to spend daily on food and drink items. The S.N.A.P. Challenge asks participants to acquire food and drink using $4 per person in their household per day. Second Harvest staff member Amanda Johnson recently participated in the challenge for 7 days.
