The 4th of July

The DC Taxicab Commission would like to wish you a safe, happy and memorable Fourth of July Holiday Weekend as we celebrate our country's Independence Day. The parades and fireworks mark a patriotic time that the District of Columbia is proud to share with everyone. It is also a time to remain diligent about protecting family, friends and visitors. So make sure you take the necessary precautions to maintain your safety.

In particular, when riding in vehicles for hire be advised of your rights as a passenger and aware of your surroundings. Riders are encouraged to be mindful of the following:

  • Taxi Driver's Face Identification Cards should be prominently displayed on the right hand side passenger visor.
  • Ask for a meter-generated receipt and note the letter and three numbers indicating the Public Vehicle Identification Number on the dome light.
  • Do not accept street hails from unlicensed or private vehicles. Private vehicles should only be summoned electronically through an approved app.

If you feel you have been treated unfairly, call the DC Taxicab Commission at (855) 484-4966. Call 911 with your location if you feel threatened in any vehicle for hire.

We have many wonderful traditions in DC during the Holiday Weekend including parades, concerts and fireworks, as well as, block parties and cookouts. So in order to get to and from your destination take a cab, Metro or e-hail a ride and know that drivers are working hard to provide safe and efficient transportation services for the public.

Happy Fourth of July!

Ron Linton

In Memoriam

Former DC Taxicab Commission Chairman Ron M. Linton passed away on June 29, 2015 after being hospitalized for several weeks from an undisclosed illness. He served as the Chairman from August 2011 until December 2014. His tenure was marked by efforts to push through much needed reforms that modernized the District's taxicab fleet, including the installation of credit card readers, new standardized dome lights and transitioning to the uniform color scheme. A native of Detroit and a graduate of Michigan State University, Linton will surely be remembered as a passionate public servant and who worked tirelessly to make                                    the District a better place.
