 U.S. Congress Approves FAA Funding Extension
On Monday, Sept. 28, the U.S. House of Representatives passed H.R. 3614, also known as the Airport and Airway Extension Act of 2015, in a voice vote that would extend funding for the Federal Aviation Administration by six months until March 31, 2016. The Senate gave its blessing by unanimous consent on Tuesday, Sept. 29, and it now moves to President Obama's desk for signature. Without the legislation, FAA funding was set to expire Wednesday, Sept. 30. The House bill was introduced last Friday by Rep. Bill Shuster (R-Penn.), who is chairman of the House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee, along with Rep. Paul Ryan (R-Wis.), chairman of the Ways and Means Committee. More...
 AEA Scholarship Applications Available Online Beginning Thursday, Oct. 1
The Aircraft Electronics Association Educational Foundation will award more than 20 scholarships totaling more than $125,000 for the 2016-17 school year to students pursuing a career in avionics or aircraft maintenance, as well as students from AEA member companies.
Since its inception, the AEA scholarship program has awarded more than $1.5 million in scholarships. Numerous awards are available, ranging from $1,000 to more than $35,000 each.
Scholarship applications are available online beginning Oct. 1 at aea.net/scholarship. The deadline to submit applications for the 2016-17 academic year is April 1, 2016.

Reciprocal Acceptance: What does it mean for me?
As of Sept. 15, 2015, international agreements with the European Aviation Safety Agency and Transport Canada Civil Aviation now allow reciprocal acceptance of technical standard orders. Reciprocal acceptance allows industry to eliminate duplicative processes, get safety-enhancing equipment installed on aircraft more quickly, make workloads more manageable, and enhance the global leadership status.  Aviation Ace Travis Lamance of English Field Aviation
Travis Lamance grew up in Nevada in a family of mechanics. His grandfather owned a diesel repair business where his father also worked. Lamance would often join them after school, learning the business. In addition, his grandfather had been in the Navy, working on Phantoms, a topic he frequently talked about. His father didn't have an aviation background, but enjoyed taking the family to air shows. "All of this planted the seed for me to choose an aviation career," Lamance said. And that's just what he did. He knew he wasn't interested in being a diesel mechanic, and in his own words, "I was no rock-star scholar in high school, and I came from a modest family. I decided to go to a vocational tech school and chose Colorado Aero Tech in Broomfield, Colorado, to earn my A&P."

L-3 AVIATION PRODUCTS introduced
its next- generation Electronic Standby Instrument, the GENESIS ESI-500. The standby unit is designed specifically for Class I, II and III Part 23 aircraft and Part 27 helicopters. It features a 3-inch display that incorporates synthetic vision, obstacles, terrain alerting and navigation. L-3's ESI-500 is compatible with existing NAV and GPS equipment, facilitating ease of installation and interconnectivity, according to the company.
DUNCAN AVIATION
earned accreditation of its calibration services lab with the American Association for Laboratory Accreditation to the international standard of ISO/IEC 17025. It also announced the move of its Fort Lauderdale, Florida, operations to a new location at the Fort Lauderdale Executive Airport.
ASPEN AVIONICS appointed ROBERT J. BLAHA director of business development that will include the company's newly acquired NexNav GPS product line. Blaha has been with Aspen since 2007.
COMLUX AMERICA named PHILIPPE KARAM chief procurement officer and JOHANNES SEEGER head of MRO programs.
B. COLEMAN AVIATION was endorsed by the Mexican Civil Aviation Authority as an approved aircraft maintenance organization. In addition, the company's fixed base operations in Gary, Indiana, became a gateway location for aircraft operations conducting flight operations to Ronald Reagan National Airport in Washington, D.C.
PRIVATESKY AVIATION SERVICES was awarded approved maintenance organization approval from the Civil Aviation Authority of the Cayman Islands.
PRECISION AVIATION SERVICES was named a certified maintenance center by Turbomeca (Safran). Under the agreement, PAS will perform level 1 and level 2 maintenance on the Ariel 1 and 2 along with Arrius 1 and Arrius 2 at its state-of-the-art 40,000 square foot facilities, located on the Atlanta Regional Airport Falcon Field, south of Atlanta.
VECTOR AEROSPACE celebrated its third anniversary of supporting operators in the Asia-Pacific region from its engine MRO facility in Brisbane, Australia. It also named LEWIS HO as regional sales manager for Asia and MATJAZ ZACCARIA regional sales manager for Europe.
SIERRA INDUSTRIES introduced version 2.0 of the Citation cabin step. Designed with improvements in functionality and appearance over the original factory step, the "SkyStep" improves safety and utility, according to the company.
HONEYWELL AEROSPACE received the Distinguished Institution award from the American Institution of Aeronautics and Astronautics during an awards banquet in Prague, Czech Republic. It also was awarded the National Safety Council's prestigious 2015 Robert W. Campbell Award for outstanding business achievement through the integration of employee health, safety and environment management.
GULFSTREAM AEROSPACE named SHERYL BUNTON chief information officer. It also named BILL SKINNER vice president, treasurer and financial planning, while KIMBERLY BENSON was named to succeed Skinner as vice president, corporate controller. BRIAN DURRENCE was named vice president of engineering. JIM BUNKE was appointed sales director for North American sales, west division.
WEST STAR AVIATION named JOE DAUGHERTY corporate aircraft interior and exterior paint sales manager.
ROCKWELL COLLINS' ARINC Border Management solution was selected by the Dominican Republic for enhanced immigration and border control, as part of a larger customs management system implemented by Hyundai Autoever of South Korea. Rockwell Collins also was selected by Boeing to provide the Avionics Gateway secure server on new 777X airplanes.
GARMIN said that as a result of new policy issued by the FAA, helicopter owners and operators now have the ability to install HTAWS more easily. With thousands of HTAWS-ready solutions fielded, including the GTN 650/750 and GNS 430W/530W series navigators, this critical safety tool and soon to be required technology is easier to incorporate into new and existing installations.
FREEFLIGHT SYSTEMS named PETE RING director of sales and marketing. He most recently served as the global aftermarket sales manager for the company.
NATIONAL AIR TRANSPORTATION ASSOCIATION purchased the Independent Fixed Base Operators Association. It will retain the IFBOA brand and continue to bring tailored products and services to these non-affiliated FBOs.
FLIGHTSAFETY INTERNATIONAL began training using the first Level D qualified simulator for the new Cessna Citation Latitude. The company also said it will install two Level D qualified simulators for Cessna Caravan aircraft at its Wichita East Learning Center. One will be equipped with Garmin G1000 and the other with Garmin G600 avionics. It also promoted JEFF ROSE to manager of the company's Learning Center in Atlanta.
LANDMARK AVIATION's Sioux Falls, South Dakota, facility located at Joe Foss Field Airport was named a Beechcraft Authorized Service Facility for Bonanza and Baron series aircraft.
PENTASTAR AVIATION unveiled a new Aircraft Interior Design Studio at the company's Oakland County International Airport headquarters. The new studio will support the company's aircraft interior business.
DAC INTERNATIONAL, a Greenwich AeroGroup company, added the additional autopilot models ARC300, ARC800, Century 2000 and KAP 140 to its current AML for STC SA10236SC for the GDC31 Roll Steering Converter.
ELLIOTT AVIATION plans to bring an Elliott Jets owned Hawker 400XP with a full Garmin G5000 installation to the annual NBAA Business Aviation Convention & Exhibition, Nov. 17-19, in Las Vegas, Nevada. The aircraft will be available for viewing at the indoor static location. In addition, Elliott Aviation already has seven confirmed sales of the system.
ROBOTIC SKIES formalized a memorandum of understanding with AirShip Technologies Group to form the framework for global support services for AirShip customers worldwide. Both companies will work together to create a service center network to complete and support AirShip products, the V1 through V9 UAS.
FLYING COLOURS CORP. named CLINT BLOOM sales manager, interiors. He will be based in Tucson, Arizona.
JEPPESEN entered into an agreement to provide crew management services for SkyWest Airlines and ExpressJet Airlines.
CLAY LACY AVIATION awarded $10,200 in scholarship funds to 24 students enrolled at the Aviation Center, an aircraft mechanics school located at Van Nuys Airport and operated by the Los Angeles Unified School District's Division of Adult and Career Education.
