Necrology Report |
|
At Foothills, we have traditionally had an annual recognition and celebration of the deaths of ruling elders, teaching elders, and teaching elder spouses. Last year we decided to move this to our November presbytery meeting in honor of All Saints.
We ask presbyters to give prayerful recognition of the life and service of those ruling elders, teaching elders, and teaching elder spouses whose lives on earth have ended.
Please notify us of any persons whose names should be included in this November

NAZARETH PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH
250th ANNIVERSERY
In 1765 - 250 years ago - a group of early settlers in Spartanburg County cut a road through the wilderness. Running North and South it twisted around the edges of fields to a plot of land which had been donated by those settlers as place where they could gather to Worship. Today that road, now known as Nazareth Church Road, still brings Worshippers to the church location those settlers founded.
On
Sunday, September 20, all are invited to join the congregation in a joyous commemorative celebration!

Thornwell Mission in Foothills |

Harvesting God's Word for His Children
The Equipping the Saints Team would like to invite the churches across Foothills Presbytery to join us in a mission project for the Thornwell Home for Children. Each year, many children arrive at Thornwell and the staff makes sure that each child receives an age-appropriate version of the Bible to give them comfort and support as they face the challenges of life. Our team has decided that this is a simple and powerful gift that our presbytery can provide for Thornwell. The staff at Thornwell assures us that they can never have too many Bibles! So let's Harvest God's Word for His Children over the next few months. Invite your session, Presbytery Women, Bible Study Groups, Mission Teams, and individuals to purchase as many of the Bible versions listed below as possible. They can deliver them to the Presbytery Office when they are visiting or bring them to the stated Presbytery Meeting on November 10. This is a wonderful way to share the gift of Scripture with children who need its message of grace, comfort, and love. If you have any questions, please contact David Howell at (864)414-8491.

Whitsitt argues that Wikipedia, the encyclopedia that anyone can see and edit, may be the most instructive model for helping congregations develop leaders and structures that can meet the challenges of our changing world. Its success depends on the collective wisdom of crowds rather than the views of select experts. He then explores the idea that the body of Christ itself, when intentionally diverse, effectively aggregates the group's collective wisdom, becoming in effect an "open source church."
