Thank you for your continued support!  This has been quite a busy Spring in the office, and we were thrilled to end the first half of the year with a successful 2015 Estate and Retirement Planning Summit!  The Law Offices of Verleana D. Green, in conjunction with the Estate and Retirement Planning Specialists, was proud to implement a fun and creative event in the Oakland Bay Area to educate individuals and families regarding the importance of Estate Planning, Trust Administration, Elder Abuse and Retirement Planning.  Please see article below with highlights from the event.

Highlights of the 2015 Estate and Retirement Planning Summit

 

The Estate and Retirement Planning Specialists would like to thank all the the professional team, staff, volunteers, actors, directors, stage crew and sponsors for their participation in the 2015 Estate and Retirement Planning Summit, and making it a success!  Participants at the 2015 Estate and Retirement Planning Summit enjoyed delicious food, wonderful networking, fantastic entertainment and of course, invaluable information!  The Estate and Retirement Planning Specialists are gearing up for the next Summit, and excited to present important information relating to Estate Planning, Trust Administration, Elder Abuse Prevention and Detection and  Retirement Planning in a fun and creative way.  Below is a summary of topics covered, and some take away points.  Below are also photos covering this wonderful event.  Until next year, happy planning!

 

Retirement Planning

  • Start Early
  • Know where you are in the process
  • It's never too late to plan for retirement
Elder Abuse Detection and Prevention
  • 1 in 3 nursing homes subject their patients to great bodily injury and death
  • Visiting a loved one in a nursing home helps prevent the instances of abuse
Trust Administration
  • Notify beneficiaries of the trust once the settlor/trustee (person creating the trust) has passed
  • If you are appointed successor trustee, keep all trust assets separate and apart from all of your personal assets
  • You can be sued for failing to administer a trust properly
Estate Planning
  • Create the 4 main documents to your estate plan, which include a Power of Attorney, Advanced Health Care Directive, Our Over Will and Living Trust to protect you and your families assets and emotional well-being
  • Enlist responsible persons to take on fiduciary roles in your estate plan
  • Call an attorney to assist in drafting estate plan documents to ensure documents are drafted correctly and will uphold challenges

Briana Camille Jones
 

 

 

 

Briana is a second year law student at the University of San Francisco School of Law, where she will earn her Juris Doctor and MBA in May 2016.  Briana is currently the President of the Black Law Students Association at USF, and a member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated.   Briana has interned at Wendel, Rosen, Black, & Dean, LLP, Oakland, CA, and was more recently a legal intern for the Law Offices of Verleana D. Green in the spring of 2015.  Briana will be attending a study abroad program in China this summer.  

 

Briana has a broad spectrum of skills, and will be a dynamic attorney.  She not only believes in giving back to her community through various activities, she has a incredible legal mind.

Ms. Verleana D. Green, Esq. received a Bachelors degree from the University of California at Berkeley and her Juris Doctorate from the University of San Francisco School of Law. As a legal professional, this Oakland native gained experienced by working for a premiere international law firm, Orrick Herrington & Sutcliffe, in the practice area of securities litigation. In addition, Ms. Green worked in the mutual funds contracts department at one of the largest and most recognized investment firms, Charles Schwab & Co., Inc. Ms. Green also worked under the General Counsel at Robert Half International Inc, drafting and negotiating employment contracts for 15 states and 8 lines of Business.  Ms. Green was recognized by Super Lawyers as a Super Lawyer Rising Star in 2013 and 2014.

 

Ms. Green's law practice focuses on Estate Planning, Contract Review and Negotiation and Probate. As a zealous representative of her clients, Ms. Green strives to get her clients the best results in the most cost effective manner. Ms. Green is a member of several professional organizations including: the California State Bar, Alameda County Bar Association, Charles Houston Bar Association, USF Inns of Court & Students Rising Above Scholarship.
