The International Safety Equipment Association (ISEA) announces that 36 safety equipment marketing and sales professionals have been awarded the Qualified Safety Sales Professional (QSSP) designation.
 
 
Organization will accept feedback until November 23

Overall, 498 respondents participated in the surveys and questionnaires.  Most (67%) hail from corporations with annual revenue over $1 billion; 69% work for companies with global operations.   Among the 35 research participants are 3M, John Deere and Caterpillar, Pfizer, Honeywell, and Six Sigma certification pioneer General Electric Co.
 
 
These five America's Safest Companies winners represent the oil and gas, contracting, environmental surveying, drilling and aviation industries.

 
Robert W. Baird & Co., in partnership with Modern Distribution Management, conducted a survey of about 500 distributors and manufacturers to gauge business trends and the outlook for the distribution industry in diverse sectors.
 
Unguarded balcony and lack of fall protection caused the death of a Dallas construction worker, OSHA finds.
 
"When an employer fails to put up a guardrail or scaffolding, or doesn't provide personal fall-arrest systems, anyone working at a height of 6 feet or more is defenseless against a fall. OSHA will not tolerate this kind of employer behavior," says assistant secretary of Labor for Occupational Safety and Health David Michaels.  
 
 
Employers are well-advised to:
  • Ensure that safety programs are comprehensive and up to date
  • Ensure that employees receive all necessary safety training, can demonstrate that they understood the training, and that all training is well-documented
  • Assess the workplace for hazards and address any identified hazards as quickly as possible
  • Talk with union representatives or employees at non-unionized facilities about their safety concerns and address any bona fide concerns as quickly as possible
 
Over 3,000 current and former employees were named in the suit brought against the company for failing to pay employees overtime for putting on personal protective equipment and taking it off.
