 AEA Convention Offers New Exhibit Hall Schedule for 2015
This year's AEA International Convention & Trade Show in Dallas, Texas, includes a modified schedule of events, which allows attendees even more time for technical training and professional development, along with more time in the AEA Exhibit Hall. The new schedule calls for the Exhibit Hall to be open April 9-10, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. both days. A complimentary light lunch will be served both days inside a designated area in the Exhibit Hall for all exhibitors and attendees. More...
 AEA President to Address Wichita Aero Club at February Luncheon
Aircraft Electronics Association President Paula Derks will serve as the featured speaker at the Wichita Aero Club's monthly luncheon scheduled for 11:45 a.m. CST on Feb. 17 at the DoubleTree by Hilton in Wichita, Kansas. During her remarks, Derks is expected to discuss the ADS-B Out equipment mandate and the industry's readiness to meet the Jan. 1, 2020, deadline set by the Federal Aviation Administration several years ago. The Wichita Aero Club was established to foster and promote interest in aviation, to provide a forum that focuses on the industry's issues and achievements, and to bring together those with a passion for flight in an environment that expands and enhances professional relationships and furthers cooperation and understanding. Leaders Chosen for Congressional General Aviation Caucuses
Rep. Sam Graves (R-Missouri) and Rep. Marc Veasey (D-Texas) take on the role of bipartisan co-chairs for the House of Representatives General Aviation Caucus, which begins the 114th session of Congress with a strong majority of 222 members. Graves and Veasey were appointed co-chairs on Jan. 23, and the House GA Caucus will play an important role in educating members of Congress about general aviation issues during this year's FAA reauthorization process. Graves served as House GA Caucus co-chair for the past Congress, and he also is a member of the House Aviation Subcommittee. Veasey replaces John Barrow (D-Georgia) as the other co-chair.
On Jan. 21, the bipartisan U.S. Senate GA Caucus named Sen. John Boozman (R-Arkansas) and Sen. Joe Manchin (D-West Virginia) as co-chairs. Boozman was a member of the GA Caucus during the last Congress, while Manchin is a longtime pilot. Sen. Boozman and Sen. Manchin replace Mark Begich (D-Alaska) and Mike Johanns (R-Nebraska), who led the 41-member Senate GA Caucus in the previous Congress but are no longer serving in the Senate. More...

EASA Announces Senior Management Changes
The European Aviation Safety Agency announced three key management changes following the new organization structure decided by Patrick Ky, executive director. Luc Tytgat was appointed director of the newly created Strategy and Safety Management Directorate. Olivier Ramsayer was appointed the new resources and support director. Finally, Trevor Woods, currently flight standards director at EASA, will replace Norbert Lohl as certification director. More...
International Trade Administration, Aerospace States Association Join Forces to Promote Foreign Direct Investment in U.S. Aerospace Manufacturing Sector
On Jan. 27, U.S. Under Secretary of Commerce for International Trade Stefan M. Selig announced that the U.S. Commerce Department's International Trade Administration and the Aerospace States Association will co-sponsor the inaugural National Aerospace Foreign Direct Investment Exposition (FDI Expo), Oct. 26-28, in Los Angeles. It is the first event designed to highlight opportunities in the U.S. aerospace manufacturing sector for foreign investment, building on the success of the Department's SelectUSA program. More...

AEA Announces Dates and Locations for 2015 Regional Meetings
The Aircraft Electronics Association recently unveiled the dates and locations for its 2015 Regional Meetings. The schedule is as follows:
- May 4-6 Europe (Barcelona, Spain)
- Aug. 18-19 Latin America (Bogota, Colombia)
- Sept. 10-11 U.S. Central (Kansas City, Missouri)
- Sept. 21-22 U.S. West (Reno, Nevada)
- Oct. 1-2 Canada (Toronto, Ontario)
- Oct. 12-13 U.S. East (Tampa, Florida)
- Nov. 2-3 South Pacific (Queenstown, New Zealand)
 The AEA annually hosts regional meetings in the U.S., Canada, Europe, Latin America and the South Pacific. The AEA Regional Meetings offer a forum to see, hear and learn about all the new technology on the market, network with industry peers and discover best practices for the aviation repair station industry. Attendees and exhibitors gather for two to three days of regulatory and technical seminars, business management sessions and exhibits. Advance registration will be accepted online beginning Feb. 1.  Avionics News Technical Training Exam Available Online
The 14th annual Avionics News Technical Training Exam is available exclusively online for AEA members. By completing the exam, which covers regulatory and technical topics featured in the 2014 issues of Avionics News, technicians can get a head start on their FAA-accepted training.
Individuals who complete the exam and score 85 percent or higher receive credit toward IA renewal, FAA AMT awards and the AEA Avionics Training Excellence Award. Applications for the ATE Award are available online, and the deadline for submitting applications for the ATE Award is April 1.
For a company to be eligible for the ATE Award, all of its technicians must have completed at least one AEA training event in 2014, which includes:
- AEA Regional Meetings or the AEA International Convention & Trade Show.
- Avionics News Technical Training Exam.
- AEA computer-based training.
- OEM and AEA partner training. Get recognized for your commitment to training by displaying the ATE Award plaque, window decal, hangar banner and hangar signs at your business.

SIERRA INDUSTRIES announced the retirement of regional sales manager PETE CONRAD, who joined the company in February 1987 as its first full-time sales associate. He was the second-most tenured staff member of 150 associates.
BANYAN AIR SERVICE's Pilot Shop will play host to a seminar designed to advance the use of iPads and tablets as an electronic flight bag. It's scheduled for Feb. 10 at Fort Lauderdale Executive Airport. In addition, Banyan Air Service has embarked on a FANS 1/A+ STC solution for an undisclosed Boeing 727 VIP operator.
GULF COAST AVIONICS was awarded a contract from the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration to provide new-generation avionics upgrades for select piston aircraft and turbine helicopters operating in the agency's fleet.
DAC INTERNATIONAL, a Greenwich AeroGroup company, partnered with ABC Completions, a privately held Canadian corporation, on its system to convert an existing EFB mount into an iPad tablet mount. In addition, the company added HAYDEN CLARKE as its new sales representative to support its European marketing and sales division.
CUTTER AVIATION named PHIL SCHARBER and JOHN DELAWYER HondaJet Southwest exclusive regional sales managers. In addition, SHELBEY HOOKER was named customer relationship manager.
ELLIOTT AVIATION increased the downtime guarantee for G1000 installations to $3,000 per day. The company said it is confident with a 15-working-day guarantee to aircraft owners that installations will be done on time.
JEPPESEN signed a multiyear service contract with NasJet to provide international trip planning services to increase flight department operational efficiency.
ROBOTIC SKIES reached a milestone with Kings Avionics in Las Vegas, as FAA-certified avionics repairman Chris Haskell troubleshot and returned-to-operations a service-drone MULTIROTOR G4 1.4 unmanned vehicle to a U.S.-based customer. It was the first drone repair performed by Robotic Skies.
HONDA AIRCRAFT COMPANY President and CEO MICHIMASA FUJINO was honored Jan. 16 with the Aviation Industry Leader of the Year Award for the development, production, marketing and sales of the HondaJet. He was recognized at the Living Legends of Aviation Awards event in Beverly Hills, California.
MID-CONTINENT INSTRUMENTS AND AVIONICS released software update version 1.0.4 for the MD302 Standby Attitude Module (SAM). The software update provides new features, including heading displayed via ARINC 429, field calibration of altitude and airspeed, live preview configuration mode, storage mode for the battery and variable Vne.
GARMIN announced two new rebate programs for select King Air owners and operators who choose to upgrade their avionics to the G1000 Integrated Flight Deck.
DUNCAN AVIATION's Lincoln, Nebraska, MRO facility received renewal of its approval by the India office of the Director General of Civil Aviation as an approved aircraft maintenance organization. The certificate is good through Dec. 31, 2015.

In 2009, General Aviation Caucuses were formed in the U.S. House of Representatives and the Senate to inform congressional members and staff about the importance of general aviation to the nation's economy and transportation system.
